Bike Rack on hitch converted to storage?

Hello all! I am a proud owner of a 2015 Fit. Recently i dove head on into the world of honda fit camping.

I threw on a roof rack and cargo box.

I put together a simple interior bed system with wood, memory foam and underneath plastic drawer storage (which i will detail in a later post)

Finally i added a curt hitch for the rear.

The last part is what i need help with. Initially i was going to put a cargo carrier to the hitch and mount a lockable chest to it as a permanent bin. However, i felt like the whole thing just sat too low and was dangerous.

I then looked onto folding bike racks and saw the Allen Deluxe 3, and thought to myself... there might be something here.

It folds so i can maintain access to my trunk, it sits high so i dont worry about scraping the ground, and its pretty easy to install and detach.

Now, I dont intend to use it as a bike rack... I was wondering if anyones ever built a sort of attachment that would allow a storage bin to securely hang off the rack.

I woild like to use it as permanent storage that is quickly accessible.

Thank you!

As long as the entire assembly weighs less than 200 lbs. Note that the rack mentioned weighs 23 by itself.

Also note that the dynamic load of cargo hanging off a hitch is potentially greater than the dynamic load of a trailer for equal tongue weight. With a properly loaded trailer, the dynamic load is mostly borne on the wheels off the trailer. With hitch mounted cargo, it's all on the mounting points of the hitch.

Also note that hitch manufacturers often overstate the specs of the hitch vs what the car maker recommends.

On other words, don't push it.

Yeah I dont intend to carry much much on it. It will be a food and/or water storage hanging off a bike rack. At best 50 more pounds of weight.

Just trying to get ideas to keep the whole set up relatively sleek and a trailer just takes up too much space and a carrier sags too low.

Thanks for the advice though!
