Fit Cancelled for USA
#41
I remember reading that the Civic is getting axed in Japan because larger sedans do not sell well. I imagine there would always be the option, in the future, of another Fit for the US soil if Honda were to end sales here.

I love the N box. Unfortunately, side impact will never permit it. The N box laughs at US crash safety standards, but not like a hero laughing in the face of danger, more like people who laugh at wearing a mask against Covid and then catch it and perish.

Nwch: it is official. It’s just coming through automotive news, which is generally factual anyway. Here’s another one. The hrv will be positioned as the new entry level vehicle.

Official: Fit dead in NDM

Very sad and a mistake. The Fit may not make much money, but it points to Honda being ingenious. It's like an inverse halo car.

Very sad and disappointing. No doubt it made little money for Honda, but it sure has a following that loves Honda because it existed. There's nothing else they sell that I want - everything else is too big.

I'd much rather see Honda work out the problems with the existing GK5 (injector / rail assembly, starters & start switches, VTC actuator, and on the newer ones, door leaks & fuel pump recall) before they go any farther in the US.
I feel like I was used as a beta tester for the GK5 with an early 2016 LX. I had the GD3 5MT (crazy rough but incredibly reliable) and had to get another vehicle when a red-light runner totaled it. If I had known the entire injector / rail design was suspect - and still is - I would have gone back to the GE8. At least we knew what the problems there were, and they don't seem as substantial as the problems with the GK5.

The Honda Fit magic seats and the 40 mpg couldn't find enough thrift buyers. With the Trump administration’s plan to reduce federal fuel economy standards (CAFE), manufacturers are making bigger SUV and more electric cars, which gives them more profit than making low profit Fits. So, I say baby your Fit. Make it last 300K miles before you have to change your buying guideline.

I agree with everything above, but have to add that I just don't like the direction the Fit went from the beginning. The GD is simple and fun. I wonder if the new Fit would be coming here if it continued with that theme. Imagine how cool a modern 4-door take on the old CRX Si would be! Instead they just kept moving closer to microvan.

The thread was moved here from the 3rd gen page. Feel free to consolidate it with the other, as my intention was to post it where it would be news to those of us whose current gen car was killed.
Thank goodness I had the opportunity to own such a near perfect car. I'm hoping to have it many more years, perhaps the rest of my driving years (I'm 65). It almost certainly won't be replaced by a Honda. At least not a new one.

Shows again that a really good car that people do not buy a lot of can be lost. They wanted to sell 200k but never came close. They made the gen3 softer to attract more buyers. The gen2 won about 5 CAR DRIVER 10 BEST awards too. Sold about 50k per year.
Anyone own a CRX? How does it compare to the Fit?
"Honda wants to reach that bold objective of delivering 200,000 cars, that means selling an additional 135,000 units of the Fit. Since production will be switched to Mexico, the next-gen model will be cheaper and will also focus on being more economical, along with offering more equipment." (next gen" means gen3)

They don’t compare at all. You can’t expect a modern car to hold a candle to the first iteration of the greatest FF platform in car history.

I agree. In my dream world, the GD was Honda returning to those days and the next version would be further in that direction. It went opposite of that.
