5 to 6 speeds swap

Hello everyone, I do not know if anyone has ever made a swap of 2012 5-speed transmission to the 6 speeds last generation. Since the latest generation of fit has a 6-speed transmission and the engine is practically the same, I wonder if the 6-speed transmission could replace the 5-speed transmission without modifications. I have to change my transmission on my 2012 fit because it has a problem. I'm thinking why not put a 6 gears in place.

It may not be worth it - the final drive ratio in 5th vs 6th of the two transmissions is exactly the same. The 6-speed transmissions 5th and 6th gears are very close together, so unless you get an excellent deal on a 6-speed, I would just replace with another 5 speed.

You might want to do some background work to see how the final gear ratios differ between the two transmissions (including the Final Drive Axle Ratio, aka the Differential) to see if it's a worthwhile project. If 5th in the 2nd Gen is close to 6th in the 3rd Gen, it may be a wasted effort. You may also want to ask members what RPMs they see at 70 MPH in both Gens. Also, if the 3rd Gen's ECU is necessary for the 6-Speed transmission, you'll have to figure out how to make it work in your 2nd Gen model. It'd be cool if someone has already pioneered all of this.

Swapping a 6MT into a GE (and even GD) has been something on the back of my mind for quite some time but I haven't dove deep into that thought... yet.

In fact, the GE was the first Fit to come with a 6MT transmission with the Fit RS... which unfortunately isn't produced in North America.

I don't recall how drastic the gearing differences is between GE's 5MT and GE RS's 6MT... Also not sure if certain gears from the 6MT CR-Z would beneficial to have in the RS transmission as well.
