What was your first choice for a transmission. And are you still happy now with the transmission you have?
Mine was a stick. I told the Honda Dealer I wasn't budging on a stick. No auto for me. Still love driving a stick. Nobody asks to borrow my Fit. They don't know how to drive a stick. LOL!!!!!!

Such a shame that stick shifts are going away. A stick adds to the joy and fun of driving. My recently ex girlfriend wanted to learn how to drive a stick. Well that ain't happening.
Automatic. Too much traffic to want to keep shifting gears. I don't see the point in having to do that work that a machine can do so much more efficiently than I can.

Put it in second and just drive like it's auto lol
Manual, 99% of used ones are and I can't imagine it's much fun at all with an auto anyway. That said mine has some decent bearing noise so realiability wise automatic might've been better lol.
This is my first automatic since 2007. I don't regret it. It's just a commuter car for me, so no need for any connectedness with the car or anything like that.
The earliest iterations of small cars were underpowered, and the only way to get the best from them was a manual. An automatic transmission and A/C would ensure that your car couldn't get out of it own way! That is not the current case, what with turbo's; but, having since bought my (possibly) last new car, I still only wanted a manual!
The Fit is my first manual car and I'm very glad I decided to get it with the 5-speed.
Sure it sucked for the first 2-3 weeks, but after learning to drive stick, the last 5 years have been a blast.
Also with the 5-speed Fit I was able to move across Canada (Ontario to BC) with 2 adults and a large dog, all our important belongings packed in the trunk and a big Thule roof box, while towing a 900 lbs teardrop trailer which was also packed with maybe 200lbs of stuff. We even crossed the Rockies without a problem. I'm guessing that if my Fit had an auto it would have sh@t itself when crossing the Rockies.
Proof you don't need a big ol' stupid truck...all you need is a stick-shift:

My 2020 Fit is a manual 6 speed. The CVTs are so boring to drive. I wanted a Fit in blue, but they quit making the manuals in anything but grey or silver. I don't regret it.
All my new cars had sticks including my Fit. I don't think about shifting when I drive. I can also start in 2nd on slippery surfaces and not spin the wheels as much. Since I downshift to slow down, in 116K miles I only had to replace the front brakes once (though I do drive 90% freeway).
I have a 2013 base w/ 5 speed stick. When I bought the car, I knew it had to be a stick, just cuz the engine doesn't have much power. There are a lot of times I wish I had an auto trans, especially with city traffic or 'rush hour" on the freeways. But it is fun going thru the gears, when I can, and that makes the car more enjoyable. Do wish it had a bit more power....
I never understood the logic of downshifting to slow down, v.s. using the brakes.
So you cause additional wear on the clutch ($1k+ to replace) to save wear on the brakes ($100ish for a decent set of pads and rotors)?
