I think I get what you mean. I know that the first time my wife got the Fit on an on-ramp, she almost pulled over because she was waiting for that normal automatic/engine shifting sound. She said it was only my description of how the CVT worked that made her realize it was normal behavior. I'll happily admit that if I was unaware of what a CVT was, and got in a car with one, I'd likely also think something was wrong. I've also seen plenty of car reviewers complain about that CVT droning sound. And let's face it. The car manufacturers only program the CVTs to make "fake" shifts because there was enough negative feedback to warrant it.

I'm just strange enough to like it. The technology nerd in me likes the whole infinite ratio gig. When I go back to my other car and its 4 speed auto, it's super obvious the difference. You can feel a significant power falloff with each shift into a higher gear. Even when I use the paddles in manual mode on the fit, there is no power loss when shifting because it's pulling the entire time. There is no "disconnect from 2nd and reconnect to 3rd" happening.

Meh, I'm ranting at this point. All that to say I'm one of the minority that actually enjoys my CVT quite a bit.

'09 Elantra. While it's been exceptionally boring to drive, I've had to put zero dollars into it in all of it's 132k miles.

Much more fun zipping around in the Fit.
