Goodbye Fit

My 2010 Fit met an untimely end last week. It was stolen at the local gas station when my wife stopped for gas. The pay at the pump wasn't working. So when she went inside to pay, some creep jumped in and drove off. (I know, she shouldn't have left the keys in the car. -Lesson learned) Since my wife's phone was in the car when it was stolen, the police were able to track the vehicle's movement. About thirty miles away, the driver went out of control and struck a tree. I don't know the extent of injuries but he was rushed to intensive care at a local hospital. It appears that although he was seriously injured the Fit may have saved his life. From the pictures he obviously struck the tree head on at a pretty good rate of speed. The car didn't roll, but every single panel was damaged. Drivers side airbag and passenger side curtains deployed. EMTs said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

This means my Black Beauty is no more but next week after the insurance pays off, we'll be getting a 2015 GK from CarMax . With the market currently out of control. we are buying at the worst possible time but our second car is a Miata and not a great all around vehicle as the Fit. On the bright side, I can now say I've owned all three generation of Fits. Looking forward to a whole new series of mods.

Sorry for your mishap but you seem to have a good attitude about it.

Lots of mixed emotions saying goodbye to an old friend who served faithfully for over 10 years and many miles that included a daily Boston commute through rain, sleet & snow, transporting my daughter off to college, romantic dates at the drive-in movie, and most recently, a move to South Carolina. Even when I bought my mid life crisis Miata, the Fit stood by and took care of everyday transportation needs. Now we'll move on to the next generation Fit and hopefully continue the love affair for another 10 years.

Oof, is that blood on the passenger side dash? Not surprising if he wasn't wearing a belt of course.

Sorry for your loss, but at least with the payout you'll get a newer car out of it.
