The problem was that the cruise control button on my 2007 GD3 would not stay engaged. A replacement switch was about $125.
So, I took the module out, and pried it apart to see if it could be repaired. Careful, there are a lot of tiny parts in there. Don’t lose the springs.
After I gently pried the housing apart, I was able to see how the mechanism was supposed to operate. After fiddling around with it for a bit, I found that I could get the switch to work if side pressure was exerted.
There is a channel that the switch slides along. I found that if I placed a piece of nylon line down that channel, the switch would work. I was going to use fishing line, but chose to just cut a bristle off the kitchen dish brush instead.
I cut the line flush with the top of the switch, Once put back together, I don’t believe the line will be able back out. So, I put it back together. The switch now works again!
Nice Fix! For anyone interested in replacing the switch, it is made by Alps Alpine, from the SPPH1 series. SPPH140400 is probably the exact match, but my local supplier didn't have that in stock. I ordered the SPPH130400 which is identical except that the arm is longer. If you go that route you'll need to trim the top bit of plastic off the arm to make it fit, but other than that it is a match and works great.
