GD3 Starter Replacement Approach

I've been seeing videos and reading how-to's about replacing the starter for the 2007-08 fit. Youtube and including here i've seen and read stuff of either going from the top or accessing it from the bottom without really removing anything except the oil filter and and dipstick housing. Those ways seem to take the user close to 4 hours to do and seem tedious with the bolts being hard to access. I came across another way of just removing the lower intake manifold giving you full access to the starter. That seems a shorter route to go. Has anyone tried it this way. just wanted to get some thoughts and opinions as I'm looking to replace my starter.
