Transmission Fluid Confusion

Honda Fit 2016
I am confuse about transmission fluid. I went through the user manual that came with my car, but no where does it recommend at what mileage to change/flush transmission fluid or whether to do a flush or change. The user manual just says, "Have a dealer check the fluid level and replace if necessary." How do I know when to have it check without detail instruction! I am not even sure if I can bring my car to my usual local auto shop to do this. Maybe I have to go to the dealer. All the information I am reading up is general information. My car is currently at 75k mileage and has never been flush or change. Transmission Fluid is a maintenance that I just heard of recently so lots of hesitation because of what I had read online and unsure if I should go for a flush or a change. Any insight would be great.

Is your car manual or CVT?

I think it is a CVT. It is an automatic transmission.

Never flush a transmission - or anything else for that matter. If you go through the Honda manual - or probably any car manufacturer's manual - you will never see the word "flush" used. It's always something like "drain and refill". There's a reason for that which I won't get into.

You're at 75 thousand miles and that's a good point at which to do a drain and refill. Probably 60 K would have been better for a CVT.

I don't have a 3rd generation Fit, but was able to download and skim the 2016 owner's manual. Here is the fluid information, followed by the quantity required.

Here is the information about the Maintenance Minder codes that should indicate scheduled maintenance, including for the transmission. As the previous commenter said, if you have no record of the service being done it would probably be wise to do it soon, regardless of what the Maintenance Minder is (or in your case, isn't) telling you.

The GE8 (mine is 2010) owner's manual came with a detailed service schedule including both mileage and time intervals that I find to be more useful if you, like me, want to be more proactive or DIY with car maintenance. I just don't trust a mystery algorithm working in the background to tell me when to do maintenance.

As far as dealer vs independent shop, CVTs have been in the world for long enough that any shop can do the change. It is no more difficult than changing the engine oil. Since a specific fluid is requested by Honda I would recommend that you purchase that separately and provide it to the mechanic.

Sell the automatic transmission Fit. Get a Fit with a manual transmission.

stop it. That is totally unhelpful.

the maintenance guide seems to indicate changing the fluid every couple of years, that is broadly inline with what I have always heard and aimed for

Honda's Fit CVT is fine. Very reliable. Absolutely no reason to switch to a manual transmission.

I change the CVT fluid in my '15 every 30k miles or 3yrs. Drain and fill with OEM Honda fluid (HCF-2).

I just changed mine on a 2018. The car has little over 20,000 miles which is pretty low but it's 6 years old and I look at both age and mileage for maintenance things like that. The old fluid was a bit dirty but the magnetic drain plug had almost nothing on it.

To begin with I have never seen "add genuine injector cleaner agent" in any Honda manual.

Secondly Honda pushes following their built in "Maintenance Minder" for ongoing maintenance and I have never seen any chart with fixed mileages and times overriding the Maintenance Minder.
etc

That's straight from the Honda IN. The maintenance schedule outlines the MINIMUM maintenance that is required. For example, let's say you've driven 100,000km and code 4 for the spark plugs hasn't popped up yet. You should service them now instead of waiting for the code to come up. The cleaner agent is part 08200-P99-G8YM although I've never seen it for sale anywhere.

The dots align with the months or miles (this list is in km so if you need miles, convert) at the top that the maintenance should be done.
