call the dealerships via phone, get the internet dept and ask for their best price. try sticker.

look at the dealer feedback section to get more ideas which dealer will give you more or trick you.

Id wouldnt expect to pay much less (or more for that matter) than MSRP.

The Fit is a perfect commuter car. If the extra features on the Sport (keyless, spoilers, cruise, alloys) are worth it to you, get them. If not, dont.

One thing, why would you want to put a strut bar in the back though? Seems like that would take a major bite out of the practicality of the hatch area, esp if this is your daily driver. The Fits chassis is plenty rigid IMHO.
Also, what the hell is a "monkey bar" ?

Personally, if I was you, in your situation I would look at the civic instead of the Fit, the bay area has insane markup on the few fits that they get. If you are talking about spending $18-19 on a fit, why not just get a civic?

Civic has better: (real world) fuel economy, available, not marked up, more power, decent (but not great) looks, sound system, chick appeal (sorry, speaking from my wives opinion), exterior color selection

Civic has worse: storage space, looks, slightly higher insurance rates, interior color selection.

My local dealer wanted $20K for a fit sport AT (without any additional options). I dont know about you, but a 20% markup on a bone stock, non collectable car is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.

That evo cost you about $35K, would you have paid $42K for it "just because"?

If it has to be a fit, do a national search, many dealers will ship to your local dealer (for another shipping charge of $560) for pickup. This would be cheaper than buying locally.

j's racing makes a nice c-pillar/monkey bar.

i paid MSRP (told the dealer id purchase LoJack and extended warranty though) so theres ways to get it done....without the things i picked up i still wouldve only paid about 500 over....took about an hour of talking/haggling but well worth it.

Fit Sport comes with these added options over base....
-200 Watt stereo
-6 Speakers (4 normal and 2 tweeters)
-keyless entry
-15" alloy rims
-Sport aero kit (hahah without it it kinda looks like an Aveo, no offense aveosam)
-AUX input jack (for iPods and what not)
-Paddle Shifters if you get the automatic sport

i thnk there may be one or 2 more things.

id say get the fit man.....theres lots of lil things that make the daily drive comfortabel and fun. me and the wife drive about 80 miles daily back and forth to work alone.

yeah my first fit was auto w/ paddles and i know own the 5 speed manual.

the paddles were actually pretty fun when i fiddled around with them. i was expecting much more lag when shifting with them and the throttle response when in S mode to use the paddles also increased compared to D mode.

i love my 5 speed though

if you get AT you probably not going to use paddle shifters on dayly basis. but it is still cool to have somewhat comfortable means to override AT choice of gears. used it once on somewhat winding road, while chasing my buddy's silver Fit (that was one fun ride! ) and noticed big lag between gears. but i guess it is better then nothing. i wanted MT too but these are kinda rare.

CHeck Manufactor date before buying!

I know on my EVO, there was no talking down the price with any dealer.

Also, is there any reason not to buy the Fit sport over the base Fit?

This car will be strictly a daily commuter w/ no power mods and some suspension work. Springs/Shocks, Monkey bar, and F+R Strut bars at the very most.
But the sport-just for the radio!

Before you buy look at the manufacture date (inside driver side door). There is a serious safety issue with Fits manufactured before November 2006. See IIHS News Release

I have owned both the sport and the base model. The base model was totaled out buy a person that did not yield my right of way.
I honestly like the way the base model looks. The underbody kit on the sport Fit does not impress me nor do the rims..... I have bought a set of rims wich are still in the box. Another thing I am not so impressed with are the paddle shifters. It is like learning how to walk again to use them.
If you want Cruise control for the fit you have to buy the sport Fit.
Ask your self how important is gas milage because the 5 speed does better in the city. I guess that the auto is just behind the 5 speed manual in MPG for the HWY driving. I have gas milage records for every mile driven for both cars. The cruising speed RPM is much lower for the Auto. Good luck
Oh yeah the stereo in the sport modle is the best.... The key less entry on the sport modle makes it seem like a much nicer car. I like the way the dome lite lights up then fades to the off position.
Send me a private messege if you have any other questions.... I am one of the few people that has owned an Auto sport Fit and a Base Manual fit. A total of 8,000 miles driven in city and hwy for both cars.
