Manual Fit.. Soon to be mine?

Well. I currently drive a 2004 Acura TL, 6-speed manual. The car is gREAT!. its nice and luxury yet sporty. But the montly payments aren't too pleasing. Im looking to get the HONDA FIT. I know i know.. its a big downgrade in class. but before the Acura TL. I drove a Honda Del Sol, manual.

Im contimplating on getting the Manual. But i like the auto b/c of the paddle shifters. I know for sure I will be getting the Fit Sport.. but if im going to think about getting a body kit, should I just get the fit Base model? and manual?

If you think you will do your own body kit get the base. IMHO though, the stock Sport kit looks better than any of the aftermarket kits.

The paddle shifters on the Sports AT are cool, but are not as much fun as the MT (also IMHO).

Unless there are issues with removing/adding on a new body kit, I'd still get the Sport. The other extras you get with it are alone worth the price differences to me. I don't really care one way or another about the body kit, but I still got the Sport for the other stuff you get. The biggies for me were the bigger/alloy wheels, nicer stereo with more power, speakers/Aux jack/MP3 cd support, and cruise. Add in keyless entry and foglights, and I think it's worth the extra $$.

I agree with the other poster - if you like to shift, get the MT. The paddles are nice, but the MT is a peppier beast. Also see the other threads - lots of AT owners are complaining about gas milage, especially in the city, which seems to be a lot further off from the EPA estimates vs. the MT. If cost is an issue, the difference between the MT and AT is almost 2/3 the cost difference between a base and a sport (~$800 for AT, ~$1300 for Sport)

i like factory body kit on Sport model.. if you can get MT sure get it... lots of people had to get AT since there are more AT fits than Mt ones..

Yes.. AT fits gets between 28mpg - 34 mpg... about 3mpg off what EPA stats... but paddle shift is "cool"...and "fun" but not "fast"...

edit.. i just checked your location and you live in Norther VA.. Fits are bit more expensive here in VA...IMO.

MPG? well, it is not as good as on the stiker but still loads better then our camry for example.

when i was getting mine i didn't even had a choice of color let alone transsmition (and hence had to go with AT). so i doubt that you will be able to just go and buy your first choice of package unless you are very lucky or willing to wait long time
i went with the sport for all the extra stuff and would do it even if intended to put some body kits. or actually i went with it since it was the one available... i don't think the base model is very available as of now. never seen one at dealership during my entire 2 week search and all the fit's i seen so far on the road were the Sport's.

good luck in your hunt!

Well, I guess my first task is to sell my current car. hehe.. Im hoping to sell it within this month. (so i dont have to pay another car payment)

2004 Acura TL, 6-speed, non-navigation, 28,000... Going to carmax tomorrow to see what they will offer...

argh.. I called around.. and no dealership as a Manual Sport fit in stock, let alone BASE model manual... This is going to be tougher than i thought.

I'd wait till you're about to get your hands on the new car first. Getting a Fit can be a frustrating experience. I waited 6 months for mine, (but I got exactly what I wanted). But getting ANY Fit will likely be a while.
Quickest arrival = AT sport, Slowest appears to be base MT.

It's worth the wait though...

Most excellent! If what you wanted was an MT, consider yourself very lucky - most of us (me included) had to wait a verrry long time to get ours......

looks like you are lucky. but if i needed to sell my current vehicle i would wait on selling until i see the actual replacement so there will be no possibility of me being without any car - need to get to work somehow. i am not saying that your dealer is lying but most dealers have very good "moral flexebility". besides even if they do get it in exactly 2 weeks someone else can always "beat you to it". the blue one i was initially waiting for was "sold" 2 hours before i walked into the dealership and thats after phone call with salesliar who i let notified of my intensions of immidiate dlivery. then they obviously tryed to push me a civic - what a surprise. f...ckers... and after stuff like that some car dealers have the nerve to claim that they are honest.
sorry for the rant. i just wouldn't want to go over that experience again and don't wish it to anybody. i really wanted that blue fit. but i guess it is for the better - now i understand that i like the white one more

so my suggestion (i mean that what would i do next time to make sure i get it) would be to leave a deposit (by credit card charge ONLY!!!), start on the contract on that particular VIN vehicle,(btw, no matter what they say you are not obligated to buy it if you don't like it or car turns out a different color then you want. they also can't keep your deposit but thats why you put it on credit card - if they start their games you always dispute the charge). let them now that you don't want any adon's so you won't be hit with additional 1700 "package A" because it is a "great deal" and they knew you absolutly want it even if you don't know it yet. With this car once it is "installed" it is either take it or leave it. unless you really want particular addon that is.

also make arrangements for your existing vehicle and carmax looks like your best option unless you have a friend who wants to get it from you and can wait.

good luck, and let us know how did it go.

Why cant you trade it in? CarMax offers less $ for cars than the dealer does in my experience.

he can't since he still owes money on it. i mean he obviously can but it is absolutley the worst thing to do. you might as well just give your car dealer a check for couple grand as donation.
i would pay the car of (equity or parents or anyone willing to give a loan) and try and sell it private party AFTER i get hold of the Fit.

Just got back from the dealership today. They had 2 fit sport auto. white and silver.

I test drove the white one... not bad. im VERY VERY impressed in the FIT, handles great, and pick up isn't bad either especially for an automatic. But i believe it would be more fun with a manual. Im definetly SOLD on the FIT!!!. Now to get what I want.... vivid blue sport, manual, black interior......
