The guy reviewing the Fit said that he keeps banging he leg on the steering wheel every time he uses the clutch. He's complaining about not having a telescoping wheel, here. Is shifting a problem for you guys? (I'm still waiting for my Fit)

 

No problems here. This guy must have freekishly long legs

 

I read that too. I think he's stubborn. I admit the fit is somtimes hard to fit in (i'm short), but there are ways to get in configs. Unfortunately, we might have to get used to a configuration that allows us to drive, but a position we never been in.

Well you can't complain about the obvious. A sub compact is not for Football or basketball players. This guy must be like 6.2- 6.4 to be hitting his leg on the steering wheel when shifting.

Im 6'1 as well and no problems at all. I guess everyone sits slightly different. :shrug:

 

I'm a half inch taller than 6 feet, and it's difficult for me to find a really comfortable driving position in this car. With the seat pushed back far enough to stretch my legs normally and the seatback only slightly reclined, I have to extend my arms fully to reach the steering wheel. I prefer to have a little bend in my elbows when driving.

My legs are not long for my height -- I have a 32" inseam. My knees do not interfere with the steering wheel or with shifting. In fact, my knees don't reach as far forward under the wheel as previous cars I've driven. I think the horizontal distance between the wheel and the pedals is noticeably shorter in the Fit from previous cars I've driven. I actually measured this distance and found it to be 3" shorter than in my wife's car ('04 Subaru Legacy Outback). The Fit needs a telescoping steering wheel, as far as I'm concerned.

An additional problem is the lack of thigh support in the seat cushion. The geometry between the level of the seat, the floor, and the pedals tends to lift the front of my legs off the seat cushion. This is increased if I move the seat forward to be closer to the steering wheel. The result is that my legs splay out to the side and my right leg rests unconfortably against the center console. An additional problem when I move the seat forward is that the angle of the gas pedal becomes more acute, requiring more ankle flex.

I've experimented with placing a wedge cushion on the front part of my seat, which allows me to move the seat forward without experienceing some of the problems I described. I haven't taken my Fit on a long trip yet, so it's difficult to assess whether I will be truly uncomfortable in this car. But I have to say that Honda has done a poor job ergonomically with the geometry of the driving position. I am not of unusual size or proportions, and I have never before had such difficulty finding a comfortable driving position.

If I had spent more time with the test drive, I might not have bought this car. I like everything else about the Fit, and I hope I can find a way to better fit into it.

 

i'm 6'3" 240 lbs.... and well the fit could use a telescoping steering wheel. people with longer legs will have a hard time finding a comfortable position.

 

My leg hits the steering wheel when I use the clutch.
But only when I touch my knees together while shifting.....

Just a hair under 6'1" and it's not a problem for me, but I do wish I had a telescoping wheel. The legroom is a little bit cramped for me, but I've found a comfortable position. You are forced to sit more pretty upright in the car, and this took a bit of getting used to, since I am a born sloucher.

If you're used to streching out a lot, the wheel will probably be too far away from you.

Obviously, you'll have to sit in the car to see if it fits you, but I think you'll be fine. If you are very long legged relative to your height, it could possibly be an issue.

 

As some of you know I'm on the tall side- (6'7''), but I'm only 285LBS- I have no problem fitting in my fit- Edmunds had another agenda.

 

I'm 6'3" and did not have any problems during the test drive. (I get my Fit tomorrow. w00t!) I have never had issue with my '95 Civic either.

I hear people mention that their legs are not too long when dealing with body proportion, but I'm curious as to what their arm length is. Maybe people have "normal" legs and short arms? I'd figure just hold your arm straight out in front and measure from your chest to your palm. I'd bet we'd find some more reasoning as to why some people under 6' feel cramped, but people like me feel totally comfortable.

I've got a 34" inseam, and my arms appear (I do not have accurate measuring tools available at the moment) to measure right at about 24" using the above measuring method.

 

are you kidding me!? ive been in one, plan on buying one soon, i own an s2000 now and im about 5'7 and i had no problem fitting into a fit, easier than my s2000
