Poor gas mileage

I'm only getting around 25mpg and my wife says I drive like an old man. I have an 08 Fit that I just bought and do mainly interstate driving....my wife has an 09 Fit and she gets 33mpg on the same roads....I am pretty upset at the poor fuel economy and did a search on possible problems and came across a forum where other Fit owners were experiencing the same problem. Apparently, according to the forum, there is (or will be) a lawsuit being filed on this issue....anyone else heard of this? Oh, and if anyone has any suggestions on why I'm getting such poor MPG I am all ears! Thanks

have you tried fixing the common issues? like Oil change, air filter change/clean, optimal tire pressure, carrying unnecessary heavy items in the car, fast accelerations, more city than highway driving.

I am getting between 28-34mpg now after having 53k miles. that's about 60% highway, 40 city. I once did 80% highway regularly and was getting 36-38mpg, this was 2nd year of having my 2008 Fit.. haven't seen those high mpg numbers in a while

also get it aligned. I'd averaged 32mpg on my 09 Base auto. Changing tires, alignment, and switching to 0w20 is netting me 36mpg over the last 4 tanks.

My guess is the alignment made the biggest difference. Car drives better too. Might be the tires (Michelin Energy E3As).

Just thinking a bit...

I wonder how many of the higher MPG Fits (40+) have driver's who are really tiny? I'm 6'2" and 225 pounds, and I would expect that my same 2012 Base Auto would probably get significantly better MPG with a lighter person. The car itself only weights 2577 pounds. My weight brings it to around 2800, but someone smaller might only put it up to 2700. That's a big difference!

Anyways, I'm about 1/3 of the way through my fourth gas tank and am displaying 40.2 MPG, but that's only with LOTS of grannying around Las Vegas on I-215.

I wouldnt play with oil that sounds dangerous to me did you call honda and see if that would effect the motor or its parts

Average Fuel Economy Gauge

I have only ran though 1 tank since I bought my FIT, and I ended up doing allot of short drives to the store, scenic drives along the water, joyrides intown, not really trying to get good mileage, just enjoying my new car.

So when I went to fill it up after the first tank the Average Fuel Economy Gauge had calculated my mileage as 27.4, after I filled up I pulled out my calculator and did the math and came up with 27.4 also, is the Average Fuel Economy Gauge always this accurate?

Like the title, select the lifelong average MPG. If the car is new please refrain from submitting a vote till you've gotten atleast 3-5 tanks worth of data. One bad tank could mess up the numbers alot.

The truth is likely that my mileage is likely even better... I speed lot of my daily commute and push the car to accelerate quickly from time to time.

2011 Fit Sport

My 2011 Fit Sport is averaging 36.2 mpg after 25000 miles. I commute about 30 miles each way to work and its all interstate at about 60mph. I'd say my highway to regular road ratio is about 90/10.

Finally have enough tanks to make a consistent report! Since new, getting 36mpg. Fairly consistent. I never do entirely HW or City tanks, but I estimate I get about 42 highway, 28 city.

Pretty good if you ask me!

That's over 2500 miles and $285 worth of high-test gasoline.

I'm really happy with my mpg I have just over 12K on my 2012 Sport A/T

I do almost all city driving and average 30-32 mpg but recently got 35
I can flog this little puppy and still return 28 mpg no matter what.

My last car was a Supercharged 2011 Mustang 5.0 that averaged 9-10 mpg combined city/hwy lol and with gas hitting $6.00/gal recently I'm happy as could be

I think the AT sucks

The AT just sucks the life out of this car. I have two cars to compare:

'98 Civic LX, 5spd manual. Somewhat faster acceleration, and I cannot get it under 40-42 MPG city, closing in on 50 highway if I keep it at 70 miles/hour or less. Engine is non-VTEC 1.6L, I think 104-106 HP, but it feels much faster than the Fit's 117HP. Also, the car has a whole lot better road feel than my so-called "sport" Fit.

'97 Acura Integra base model 140HP. Blisteringly fast compared to the Fit, and I have never had a tank of gas get less MPG than the Fit's best.

Manual versus automatic?

What the heck is wrong with Fits? At their size and meager accelearation, they should be 50MPG cars. My old '86 CRX Si, which was blazingly fast and cornered flatter, got nearly 70 MPG.

Right now I'm driving 95% City and I can't get anything over 33 mpg no matter how hard I try along with every trick I know and have read about.

They just don't get great mpg. When it's warm out, I can get up to 33 city and 36 hwy, but now? Cold weather brings it down to around 29/32.
