Thumbs down Dealer wins every time

So you want the upgraded exhaust,,,,,it costs you 380 bucks or so,,,,,
you have paid for the stock exhaust with the purchase of the car,,,
the dealer KEEPS the stock exhaust and gives you NO money for it,,,
he wins the money for the stock exhaust and sells you the new one ,,,
Same with the wheels, lets say the stock tires/wheels cost 500 bucks,,,
You want the 16 inch wheels,,,they run 850 or so,,,,
the dealer once again keeps the stock wheels that you have paid for (500 bucks),,,
and then charges you for the new shoes (850) so that comes out to 1350 for the 16 inch wheels,,,,how is that right???? tell me I'm wrong on this,,,,

A lot of dealers try this... I'm not sure how legal it is.

If they refuse, I'd just buy the car stock and get the parts later. You'd save money, anyway. For example, you can order through Honda Parts Super Store - Honda Accessories, Honda Parts Authorized Dealer and pick up the exhaust for $250 and wheels for $600...

its all in the negotiation. if the car you're looking at has stock wheels on it and you're interested in getting aftermarket from the dealer, you tell them you want to buy the wheels, but you want your stock wheels back. i did this with my wrx. you own the stockers, they can't legally keep them, but most people aren't aware of it. you have to advise them that you are aware that they can't keep them by telling them that you want all original parts back.

arsonall is right.

To carry this thought further, you should always insist on getting defective parts back whenever a repair is done. It is your legal right to demand the parts be returned.

Any time you buy upgrade parts from a dealer, you get less than the best price, and you can always find those parts for less than a dealer would sell them for. Then you can sell the stock/base parts yourself.

my fit was a dealer trade...
so they drove it from a dealer on the other side of town that had already put the 16's on it.
it's such a damn headache to argue with them about wanting your stock wheels that magically disappeared.

So is it to much to ask to get credit for the OEM parts that you don't want?

Ya I have worked at many different dealers and all the dealers I have ever worked for have offered the customer there oem parts back,if have made the deal it would be wise to try to get back your oem parts. Like you said you pay for the parts when you purchase the car so rightfully they are still yours!!!
