wrong oil put in car

i went to jiffy lube(took me a long time to think of a place that i could trust...and i dont trust jiffy lube, but its the only place where they dont need to get in my car and i can drive it onto their station). they put 5w-30 in my fit(usa 1.5L) it takes 5w-20 will this damage the car? should i wait til my next oil change or take it up there today and demand they change it?

I think you would be fine.. but if they'll change it out for free w/o hassle go do it! And never go back there again lol. Jiffy Lube ftL

also what type of oil do you guys use? they said if i do a lot of performance stuff i should use mobil 1?

i do a lot of hard driving here and there and def plan to do a lot more soon(only have cold air intake right now...) after i get a few things done in a couple months i plan on starting to take it to the strip. does the brand of oil/type really matter? as long as its 5w-20.

Amsoil was the first manufacturer to market full synthetic lubricants for cars. IMO, they are the best. But in the last 15 years or so, all mineral oil makers have brought out their own brands of synthetics. They are all made from the same synthetic stock- polyalphaolefin. The only difference is the additives each maker uses.

Everyone who posts in these forums will tell you something different, based on their opinions, about what oil you should use. I have been a mechanic for 40 years, and an Amsoil dealer for 25. It is my opinion, based on 40 years of experience. that you will get better performance and far longer life from your engine by using synthetic lubrication. Pick your own brand, but don't choose by what you see on TV ads. "Like liquid ball bearings!". B.S.!

I only use synthetics using group 4 base stock. I lot of manufacturers switched to group 3 base stock because, IMO, it's not a true synthetic and it's cheaper to make.

Jiffy lube will replace your oil for free. They're probably going to say that there's nothing wrong with using 5W-30, and there probably isn't. But the manufacturer requires 5W-20 and that's what should be in their database. Go fix it.

ive noticed that since i got my oil changed it wasnt running as smoothly as it had, so i decided to check my cold air intake (it didnt sound as good as it had since the oil change) and found that they shoved a piece of a sterifoam cup right where the hole is where the intake sucks from...completely covering the hole. i went in and complained they said none of their guys would do that, i saw the cups inside, same type they used, size/brand everything. they wouldnt do anything about it except put in the right oil and give me a discount on my next one, told em to kiss my ass and went and called the 1800 # and filed a complaint with the regional manager. gonna talk to him in a couple days. never going to use a jiffy lube ever again. they also didnt wipe up the spilled oil on the skid plate...so now i have to drive 30-40 mins to see a friend of mine and have him do my oil at his shop ;x lol...

also...last time i got my oil changed on my other car they put in the wrong oil...takes 10w-30 they put in 5w-20.

anybody else have any bad experiences with jiffy f**k ups?

I suggest that you file a complaint with your local or county Better Business Bureau. Most BBB's have on-line complaint forms.

This is why i ALWAYS buy my own oil and filter, even if I have to have the change done at a JL or other chain type maintenence place. I also insist I WATCH them perform the change. I don't care if they think I'm an ass, because the first time I went to a JL (with my own oil and filter) the first thing the guy said after he popped the hood was..

"...What the heck?"

yeah.
.
.
no.
