The 2008 Fits MPG sticker seems to have dropped..kind of significantly.

The 08 Models state:
Automatic (city/highway/combined)
Fit: 27/34/30
Fit Sport: 27/33/29

Didn't it use to be 33/38?

I think that the 2008 models have to go by a new EPA millage standard, so the cars the same the MPG is just decided differently.

 

Some people get mid 20's and some people including me get mid to high 30's so there is a big range there. I think Honda noticed that some people were getting lower then listed MPG so they lowered it...At least i think thats what happened..

 

It's just the EPA estimates that have changed, not anything about the actual vehicle mileage.

The new 2008 EPA ratings use highway speeds up to 80 mph, city speeds up to 45 or 50 mph, AC on for part of the cycle, some stop and go driving I believe, and more rapid acceleration than the older tests. So now the ratings ought to be closer to what a lot of drivers will achieve.

The result is all cars will see lower EPA mileage estimates in 2008. Hybrids took the biggest hit (as much as 10 mpg/25%), followed by small-displacement engines (4-5 mpg), and least affected are large-engine vehicles (generally 2-3 mpg).

those are the 2008 epa system, which is drastically different than earlier. the prius used to be 60/40. now it's 45/40 or something. civic hybridw as 50/50 now 45/45.

 

The new EPA ratings are more accurate. My auto fit sport only gets 29 with 70% hw, 31 90% hw and will probally get 27 with 50% hw/city. I was exciting about the 07 EPA ratings of 33/38? and was sorely disappointed.

Yea, the old mileage testing cycle reflected the way an 85 year old retired librarian might drive---slow and easy.

The new figures much more accurately reflect real world driving by the majority of drivers out there.

And those new mileage figures you posted do reflect what my AT equipped Fit Sport is getting. When the engine was new, I'd regularly get 27-29mpg. After about a year, I looked at it again (I only now have over 12K miles, and I bought mine on the first weekend they were on sale April 2006) and I'm now getting 32-33 mpg combined driving.

I don't hypermile, and I don't overinflate my tires to try and get better mileage

What I have found is the biggest effector of mileage is how aggressive my accelerations are. If I drive it easy, it gets over 33 mpg mostly city. If I nail it, then it dips to 30. I usually end up filling up at around 1/4 tank to go, which is between 2 and 3 gallons. Just a little easy driving means I can get approx. 21 miles more on my fillup every week and a half.

 

HotIron, if you were to sell your Fit to me, what would it cost.

Did the Fit's horsepower go up too? The 2008 model says 109hp, I thought the 2007 was 106hp?

I'm in agreement that the biggest factor in MPG's is how agressive one drives, and maybe even more so in a car of this size. I have consistently gotten about 37 mpg with my M/T Fit Sport. I've always been very conscious to avoid rapid acceleration and braking. Last weekend I filled an almost empty tank with premium gas (for the first time) and drove (mostly hwy) until it was almost bone dry just to check mpgs. There were two of us in the car, and I had the A/C on almost the entire trip. I drove 405.5 miles on that tank of gas, and got 42 mpg! That's the best I have ever gotten. I have about 26,000 mile on my fit. I read these forums a lot, and it seems few are getting as good gas mileage as me, which makes me think it has lots to do with how quickly one accelerates and brakes.

Here in Canada, the 2008's MT Fit is supposed to get better MPG than the 2007. Last year it was rated 39 city and 49 highway (imperial gallon) This year its says it will be 40 and 50. They did this to try and qualify for the govt's $1000 rebate in the eco auto program.
