accessories
accessories
hey guys,
so i feel kinda silly asking this as most of the accessories i've been reading about on the forum are hardcore mods to the exterior of the car! i was actually wondering if anyone has purchased the simple accessories like:
1) cargo cover
2) the bumper applique (that plastic/rubber thing that goes on the bumper so u don't scratch it up when taking things out of the back)
3) visors (this one i have seen listed on the forum) - i'm still trying to decide between the mugen or jdm
i'm looking for inexpensive (obviously) but reliable companies that don't charge an arm or leg for shipping! i'm shipping to bklyn, nyc. i have found plenty of companies online offering all of the above just wondering what u guys have experienced or recommend.
Thanks in advance!

AJ Racing. Shipping is quick and prices are good. JDM Access visors give you the sleek look. I have the cargo cover, handy if you don't have tinted or only lightly tinted windows. Bumper applique is good if you do a lot of moving.
You might want to consider the Stainless Steel bumper protector from Zeta Products, instead of the bumper applique which is only tape. The price difference is only a few dollars, but the Zeta bumper protector is MUCH more substantial and better looking.
I have the bumper guard, all weather mats the cargo cover and trunk mat thing, the dealer threw them in with my trade. The trunk liner is very nice for wet n' dirty stuff. After getting scratches on the bumpers of all my previous hatchbacks, I'm looking foreward to the bumper guard too.
I wish I'd thought to remind the dealer of this but . . .
I had them throw in the bumper applique as as part of the deal. So far so good. When they installed it, in my opinion they put it too close to where the 5th door closes. Any likely bumper scrapes are not going to occur near the door lip, they will occur on the outside edge of the bumper. My applique was applied too close to the door lip and barely begins to wrap over the the bumper.
I am especially bummed as, short of buying a new bumper, there is nothing I can do about it. I guess I just thought that whoever was putting it on would be smart enough to do it correctly.
In the future, I'll just get the part for things like this, and install it myself. (I like the look of the black on the red car, in preference to the silver ones some people mention.)
It's especially galling as it's one of those things you are often reminded of, as you see it a lot - when opening the hatch, and walking towards the car from the rear.
Posted in the hope you have a better bumper applique experience!

golly,
Installing accessories yourself is almost always better than the job you will get from a dealership. The installation instructions for the bumper tape are very specific about the measurements AWAY from the front edge of the rear bumper.
I hate to bring this up again- don't want to preach, but the Zeta Products Stainless Steel bumper sill plate is made to wrap OVER the back edge of the bumper, so it protects the most vulnerable area.
If you have the budget, do what I did-- apply the Zeta SS plate right on top of your existing tape applique. The black applique frames the stainless steel plate and makes it stand out. The stainless steel fully armors the top/back edge of the bumper, and the tape applique provides at least a little protection over most of the rest of the bumper surface. My personal concern is possible damage from the claws of a 120 lb. Wolf/Husky/Malamute mix named "Dirty Harry". So far, with my double bumper protection, not a single scratch.

Hi,
The Zeta plate certainly sounds like a good idea. This may just be because they are showing it on a silver car, but in the photo on their site it doesn't look like the Zeta one hangs over the bumper much farther than my black one does
Honda Fit Stainless Steel Rear Bumper Cover - FIT_RBC_ZP
Is the steel at all flexible? And please post photos of your car! And of Dirty Harry. As you can see from the photo, our pack do not cause us any rear bumper worries

but they are part of the reason why I am eagerly awaiting the door sills from A-J Racing. The little black one (Mimi) is the only one agile enough to jump in on her own on the first try, and her claws could scratch the paint. The older brown gentleman (Fred) has bad knees, and can make it up with some effort and luck - again probably scratching the paint. The old girl (Molly) who looks vaguely cow-like just stands there and yaps to be picked up. Only about 30lbs total of dog
though.
MIZZZFIT, sorry for a bit of a hijack, but thanks for starting a thread where we are discussing common comfort/protection accessories. I was really happy for my cargo *tray* yesterday . . . I hadn't properly closed one of my Gladware lunch containers, and some of the butter, (dry) ranch dressing and cornflakes coating on my potatoes spilled out. It was just a quick wipe up.

Okay, here are photos of the Zeta S.S. Rear Bumper Protector mounted on top of the Honda tape applique:

And here is Dirty Harry (33" tall- ruler across the shoulders, tape measure to the floor, nose to end of tail = 72", upper & lower fangs = 1 1/8" long. 40% Alaskan Grey Wolf, 40% Canadian Red Wolf, 10% Siberian Husky, 10% Alaskan Malamute).

Harry's half sister, Juneau, 50% Alaskan Grey Wolf, 50% White Siberian Husky, 98 pounds (needs to lose some weight).

And Heidi, Short Hair Siberian Husky, 78 pounds.

The three big dogs are the main reason why I installed the Zeta door sill plates and the Zeta Rear Bumper Protector.

WOW guys!!! BEAUTIFUL doggies! ahh - i'm so jealous! i've wanted to get a Golden Retriever for quite some time now but i'm allergic!
Thanks for the pics - i just ordered my applique today & cargo cover so hopefully i'll get em sometime this week! now u guys have me thinking about that cargo mat as well! and of course i'm gonna run out and spend money on wind deflectors and window tinting! ARGH!!!
now for one more question - have any of you purchased a passenger side visor (with a mirror)? i know it's not such a big deal as I'M usually the driver of the vehicle anyway but i'm a brat! (I cannot tell a lie!) or if not purchased one, have u modified your existing one to somehow include a mirror?

Hey Mizzfit:
The cargo mat is really nice - I am so happy I decided to purchase also just a reminder. College Hill Honda is guaging interest in the below item which would be great if you have dogs - they will see if there is any
interest and then make it available: Cat :x

Manxman, your pack looks so much more intelligent than our pack, but then again my husband always tells me, "You did want to adopt Chihuahuas."
My hope for a cheap passenger visor . . . if my brother-in-law in Australia is at a junkyard and gets one from the driver's side (our passenger side) of a wrecked Jazz.
I wish I'd gotten my Fit before our trip to Oz in early August . . . I would have come back with so many goodies! My husband came back with a wiring harness for the trailer hitch on his Elantra.

golly,
Thanks for the compliment. Wolves are extremely intelligent, and Northern breeds like the Husky are very crafty and sneaky as well. That's the difference between having a pack of predators, and, well, prey? Actually, our animals don't hunt and are never out of our yard unless on leashes, and we also have two elderly cats who get along with the dogs fine.
That said, a month ago a skunk made the last mistake of its life by being in our back yard when we let the dogs out for their last pee break of the night. Our Husky, Heidi, is the boss of the crew and she killed the skunk. She was really lovely to live with until I could go out and buy the ingredients for our vet's "de-scenting" recipe. For those who haven't experienced it, a skunk-sprayed dog smells like old, fermenting garlic. A good experience to miss.
