Talking Road Noise...

Hi All,

While I wait (only a week to go) to get my 2008 SSM Sport MT, I was wondering if there has been any discussion so far on road noise (couldnt find a thread). During my 50k test drive this weekend, it was probably the only thing about the car that bugged me a little (admittedly, it only bugged me at around 90 - 100K). Round town it is fine.

I was wondering if anyone has been able to reduce the road noise (better carpet and undercoating are two things I have considered). I found a company that provides a 'sound reducing' undercoat in New Westminster. They gave me a quote of $100 for the car (seems reasonable), but even though its only $100 I still down want to waste my money.

How have other found the road noise at highway speeds? And yes, I realize its not a luxury car, so I shouldnt be expecting silence as I drive. But at the same time it would be nice to make my Fit even more luxurious!!

I think the product was called Dynamat? Is that it? It was a sort of heavy sound deadening material.

for some reason, all Honda's have a problem with wind noise. From what i understand, if you try to make the vehicle quieter, you add a lot of weight to teh vehicle, therefore, yoru gas milage goes down, more wear& tear on the vehicle, and performance will decrease too.

I think it's actually decent for such a small car. My last two cars had some pretty unbearable road noise at high speeds (I had 97 Sentra that would leave my ears ringing after a long high-speed road trip), so maybe it's just quiet compared to what I'm used to.

Don't fret the road noise. The Fit is not a noisy car and I believe it is actually has less road noise than my 07 Odyssey. It is significantly more quiet than some previous generation Civics that I test drove before buying the Fit.

Noise

I doubt that much noise is coming from the under-body. Noise is usually from wind traveling over the car, causing noise to come through the windows. The greatest source is the tires; so covering the wheel wells may reduce noise dramatically.

You might want to try one of the rubberized wheel well sprays on the market. They protect your wheel wells from stones and mud, and reduce noise. Wurth makes some black or clear coatings (see links).

100 bucks for undercoating seems reasonable. Got the undercoating paint protection from dealership, only hear noise when doing about 180km/h
