Question Checklist when taking delivery of a new Fit ??/?

To those with experience in purchasing a new Fit. Is there a checklist , or things to look out for , or things one should do when taking delivery of a new Fit?

always look for damage, make sure your antenna is there, make sure the gas tank is full and that all of your lights work. other than that your good.

If you let the dealership wash your car - don't just let them sit it in the shade. Put the car in the sun so you can check for swirl marks - many owners have reported this problem once they got the car home and in
direct sunlight. My dealership did a great job, no swirls. Make sure you have your spare, your manual, the card to your stereo, if he tells you about someone from Honda calling to see how your purchase experience was laugh and say a free first time oil change coupon would really be nice! if you did not have to have a front plate make sure they give you the bracket and bolts for that in case you change your mind. You will get two keys to your car, make sure they both work to lock and unlock the car. Also check the headlights and rear light plastic housing for any strange marks, mine had some on it probably done at the factory - it came off after it's first washing. If you did not get any of the extras' like all weather mats, cargo cover - ask about these, my Honda dealership offered me free installation and 15 % off each item I purchased after my car deal was done.

If you get a Sport model check the front bumper lip too.
Mine had a nice gash/scrape marks under the front spoiler lip.
Probably from unloading off the transport truck too fast and bottoming out.

good tips. I will hopefully be taking possesion of my SSM Sport Fit this weekend or early next week. I will look out for that stuff. I got the dealership to throw in the cargo cover in for free. when i was negotiating prices on the accesories I wanted I brought prices from hana-accessories.com website and said well this is what I can get for them online. they were squirming in their seats. they had to sell them to me at their employee discount to even closely match handa's website.

I ended up only getting the all season mats for 87 + tax and cargo cover for free.

Any further hints?

I too will be getting my Fit this week. I read these replies, all very useful, and have a few more questions.

Do you take the car for a test drive before accepting it?

What if there are appearance imperfections? Do they just fix it and you just put off getting the car for a few days?

Is a full tank of gas Honda's policy or is that up to the dealer's policy?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Make sure you get a FULL TANK!!! Technically you "pay" for it. The window sticker states this.

check where the front/rear bumpers meet the fenders and check for paint peeling.

I missed one thing when I was inspecting my fit, it looks like someone tried to close the drivers door and maybe a screw or small rock was in the door sill so there is a nice series of small dents there where the door closed on it. I'm upset I missed that but oh well.

Check out the mileage on the car as well shouldn't be that high. Other then that good luck with your new fit I hope everything else is in good order.

Try to negotiate for floor mats and extra keys. Floor mats are not included with a Fit and are odd sized making Honda mats the only real way to go. The keys are expensive to get made and you only get two with your car.

i got a crapload of goodies from my dealership, especially since we were repeat customers. Seriously my parents swear by honda and nothing else. i received the all season floor mats, rear bumper applique and the all season cargo tray all for free . of course we had to because we couldn't wiggle down the price of the fit

I picked up my Fit at night and in the rain. Hahaha!
I didnt even take the time to inspect it because of the weather. I did go back the next day and pointed out little scuffs that were removed right away.

My sales person offered to give me free touch up paint. It was taking too long to get so I just told him to forget about it. Wish I had that paint right now

Congrads on getting your car. You can ask to take it on a test drive but what I would do is once you are sure everything is good to go just drive it off the lot to your home. If you notice anything that sounds wired, of feels different than your original test drive, don't hesitate to turn the car around and go back to the dealership. Remember your car is under warranty and they will want to make it right for you. If your car has any damage they may just schedule you to come back and have the work done. If you notice swirls in the paint they may offer to buff them out for you or just have you return to have it done another day. The main thing is to make your salesperson aware of the concern and address it with a planned resolution of whatever the problem might be. Definitely they will have it filled with a tank of gas for you.

Hope that everything is great when you go pick up your ride and isn't it funny how waiting for the Fit to arrive is just like Christmas morning when you were a child!!!!

Check the air pressure in the tires. They have a checklist that says that it was checked and they may even put a check mark in the box, but that does not mean they checked it. When I picked up my Fit I had a checklist that said all this stuff was done. When I got home I was getting bad gas milage so I checked my air pressure and every tire was at 20 psi. Supposed to be 32psi. After I filled to proper pressure my gas milage went up.
