New Fit Owner Needs Advice
New Fit Owner Needs Advice
Hello Everyone
I just purchsed a 2008 Fit Sport Storm Silver paid sticker, the dealers are not backing down a penny, not even on '07's.
Now I need some advice on doing the following upgrades:
- Sound deadening, non flamable material for under the hood
- Sound deadening material for the wheel well and other recomended areas
- after market auto-off relay for the head lights. ( my battery died for the 2nd time after I forgot to turn them off, I am spolied from my old car which had auto shut off)
- any after market front bucket seat rails that allow the seats to go futher back? I know this is an issue with CRV owners who usually just drill new holes about 3" further back and re-intsall the seats, but with the Fit, the gas tank is under the seat
so this does not look like an option, unless someone has successfully done it before.
Here are some of my initial comments on the car:
- Great fuel economy, I am averaging 33mpg right off the bat, under mixed driving conditions, the engiene has less than 200 miles. I figure after breaking it in the mpg should increase some more
- Head turner - get lots of looks
- Noisy as heck at over 60 MPH on the highway, the 15" dunlops SP-37's are very noisy. The oversized mirrors also add a lot to the wind noise.
- Need more storage space for peronal items, ie center console, door pockets, etc.
- El Cheapo carpet
- El cheezy tin can sounding tweeters
- Good A/C
- Awesome headlights and range
- Awesome brakes, but the again the car only weighs 2,500 lbs
Thanks again everyone for your suggestions and look forward to posting some pics and more comments in the future

2008 Honda Fot Owner Update
After two weeks of owenrship and over 1K Miles here are my observations
- First tankful I got 35 mpg
- Second tankful I got 32.5 mpg
- Third Tankful I got 34.4 mpg
Found a machine shop that can make custom rails to extend the seats further back three inches
However there are two significant problems:
1- The stock seats rail have a 170 degree incline towards the back, so the extra 3" will make the seat go back too low
can't adjust the height.
2- The steering wheel does not telescope, so my arms will stretch when reaching
Bottom line, the foot pedals are too close and the steering wheel too far, what an ackward design, I was surprised when I read similar comments on the consumer reporst test drive of the car.
Car noise goes down when the rear seats are folded down flat, I guess the padding muffles the floor noise.
A/C Works great !
This is a fun zippy car, lots of fun to drive
I'm still getting used to the clutch shifting points, when shifting above 3,500k not a problem, but if I want to take a smooth start and smooth shifts at slow speeds it is a pain.
The interior space of the car continues to amaze me
Had the car completely detailed, the dash looks so much better with a nice application of armor-all gel
Had my 3M 5% tints installed, car looks killer, next stop is a set of rims
That's all for now, here are some recent pics I took of the car this week

I'm thinking of using some sound deadening mats on the doors and wheel wells like shown in the DIY. I have not actually tried to listen to the noise diffrence when the rear seats are folded down or up.
I have seen many people comment about the akward sitting possition. It seems like the designer want us to sit more upright than most of us like. Maybee a saftety issue? I have found the perfect sitting possition in the car, but the arms are stretching a bit for the steeringwheel. But have no trouble sitting like this for tousand of km (actually drove 1400km in one day this summer).
I would love to get the seat rails stretch about an inch forward so I could get the seat into the "Relax mode", that is not possible on my car now. It looks like the rear seats are diffrent in the Jazz than in the US Fit.
