My MPG number so far - 08 fit with 1500 miles

So I keep seeing these threads about people getting terrible mileage in the FIT.

well ive only monitored my mileage for 3 tanks and here are my numbers

keep in mind ... most of my driving is highway driving .. at roughly 70 MPH

Tank 1 - 33 MPG
Tank 2 - 33.5 MPG
Tank 3 - 34.5 MPG

and I by no means drive like a grandpa - car is a Fit S 5 speed btw

Pretty nice MPG so far! That shows that you dont have a dud and get like 25 every tank.

update

so here are my results from 3 more tanks .

i have about 2600 miles or so on the car

30 mpg (this was more city driving then usual and some snow driving)
34 mpg

and just tonight

35.1 mpg -

most of my driving is highway ... and i know alot of people have been complaining about the DEFROST MODE / AC always on issue

i generally drive with the car in DEFROST/FOOT mode

im very happy overall with the mpg

wow manual really does make a big difference in mpg.
I have a SSM auto sport and I got about 28mpg at around 1500miles but mostly city driving, havent gotten past 30mpg yet. so far the EPA estimate is right on (28city).

I think keeping it to 70 or below is absolutely key to getting mileage out of a Fit. I've been getting OK but not great mileage since I got the car, with a best of about 35mpg on her maiden voyage road trip - 600 miles the day after I bought her. Typical highway speed limit around her is 70mph, so of course everyone drives 75+. My last highway tank at 75+ was just under 31mpg. As an experiment, I set the cruise dead on 70, and basically kept it to the posted speed limits where I could. That trip was yesterday, and I got 37.6mpg, so I'd say it was worth it. I need to run that way again to see if it wasn't a fluke... the fillup immediately before was 22mpg, all city, with nothing but short trips in cold weather. The worst possible combo.

lately ive been setting my cruise at 65 ... i drive mostly highway ...

at first it was VERY tough only going 65 lol .. im used to having faster cars and used to driving alot faster.. but i feel so much more calm just cruising at 65 and letting all the crazy drivers do there thing

I feel like my driving style has changed ... for the better of course...

thats until i get in the s2000 then all bets are off .. but seeing as the fit is the primary daily driver... if it means i need to cruise at 65-70 to get 34+ mpg .. then so be it its great on the wallet

it seems like the car goes into vtec real low vs other honda's ive had.
once you hit vtec your mpg suffers quite a bit obviously...and that
transition appears to happen around 4200rpm.

so i keep it mostly under 4k and i get good milage. (34mpg+).

In an article on Temple of VTEC, they have the stock dyno output from an 07 Sport MT, and you can see that VTEC on the 1.5L comes in at 3400rpm. That appears to be just above cruising RPM at 70mph, so by 75mph, I was getting in to the VTEC range for sure. I have been able to get 35mpg or so at 75mph, but only once so far. I think I'm going to see how consistent the mileage at 70 can be, but I don't think I can tolerate going any slower around here...
