Funny thing about the Fit

Hi

I got a SSM '08 fit and brought the car to the dealer to have the Engine Block heater installed. Got the car back and now every time I start it I hear this sloshing sound... Note that the car is not moving when I hear the noise...

Has anybody noticed this ??

Thanks

Make sure you keep an eye on your rad overflow tank level. Sounds like air and fluid going through your heater core, they didn't refill properly after the install. If it doesn't go away after a few running/cooling down cycles take it back to the dealer. The thermostat should be open b4 fluid is replaced after draining the system.

I think JDMchris and Tool are spot on with this one...
as after I step into my car I can hear the gas sloshing around sometimes from my sad attempt at entering the vehicle...
(Im injured so sometimes I look like a drunk acrobat getting in)

I had an engine block heater installed on my 04'Pilot and never heard anything like that. Just take it back to the dealer and have them check it out. Everything they install is and should be covered under the factory warranty. (I even got them to replace my wipers under warranty ).

Just to be on a safe side, turn your climate temperature selector to hot and run the car like that until fully warmed up. If air is inside cooling system then it is in the heater core for sure. Trick is to have heater on when car is fully warmed up and thermostat open. Cold won't do it.
If you lack coolant in the expansion tank after that, just add some in the expansion tank. DO NOT open radiator even when it is just lukewarm, it is under pressure. You might get scolded and coolant will be all over the engine smelling forever. Even if you wash the engine. It just gets in hard to reach areas that you would not be able to fill even if you tried intentionally. LOL! Open it first thing in the morning when it is entirely cold.
For some reason Fit radiator is under pressure even when lukewarm unlike just about all the cars I worked on.

Well, thanks everyone that replied.

Based on the feedback from ciburri, I checked the coolant level and surprise... there wasn't enough.

At that point, since the dealer installed the engine block heater, I took it back and demanded that they check for leaks. They found that the heating element loose and it was leaking... They re-tightened it and topped off the fluid.

All better now...

I always hear a sloshing noise whenever i brake at a stop sign or light or park the car. It sounds like all the fluids in the car and sloshing back and forth. I have no clue what it is but i dont think its bad so i ignore it.

Just to clear up a bit: I still hear the fuel sloshing under my seat, but this particular noise was more like water running down the dashboard when the car was being started and not moving. This was due to low coolant fluid in the engine.

OOOOOOH! When you put it that way....heck all the Honda's me and my family have owned have had that at some point. I used to get it sometimes when starting but mostly when sitting in the car when it was just turned off.

Question Sloshing noise that sounds like it's coming from dashboard

Hi f2002q. I found your article doing a search and I wanted to share my problem here. I took my 2007 Honda Fit Sport for the 30,000 mile service on 12/1/07 at Hollar Honda in Orlando, Florida. After waiting about 3 hours and paying $300 I left the dealer. As soon as I left I heard a sloshing noise. It was like fluid going back and forward. I found it kind of odd that it never did it before the 30,000 mile service. I called the dealer and they said if it didn't stop doing it to bring it back. Well I brought back after a week. They didn't know exactly what it was but they claimmed they flush the air system or something and that took care of it. I didn't get any paperwork but I didn't think nothing of it. After about a month the sloshing noise came back and I took it back the morning of 12/19/08. I had to talked to the service manager because they didn't have any records of this ever happening in the first place and I had them added to my records. They were not able to find a problem and they claimed they found the following "Honda service news article" that says: "The Fit's fuel tank is mounted under the driver's and front passenger's seats. Because it's located there, it can make a sloshing noise that sounds like it's coming from the dashboard. That noise is just a normal characteristic of the vehicle and nothing you can fix". I'm assuming this article is real but I can't find it anywhere on line. I will check to see if my coolant is not low f2002q and see if that helps. Any suggestions for me? Help!
