Snowfall followed by a -20 Celsius windchill
Snowfall followed by a -20 Celsius windchill
I live in Toronto, Canada and we got plenty of snow falling for New Years eve. I believe there was roughly 5cm of snow since countdown to around sunrise. So for the entire day, there was probably 3-5cm of snow on top of the car, some on the spoiler.
So, this morning I went out to warm up the car, I wanted to brush off some snow off of the windows. My snowbrush is located in the trunk so I went on to opening the trunk door. As soon as it was probably 1/5 opened, I started hearing ice crushing from underneath the ice/snow buildup between the top of the car and the spoiler. It didn't sound good for the car at all, so I decided not to continue to open the rest of the way. I just ducked under and grabbed the snowbrush that way. As I was done brushing the excess snow from the windows, I went on to brushing some of the snow on the top of the car. While doing it, I realised that the cold temperature (-20 Celsius) caused much of the snow that was on top of the snow for New Years, had become ice. I didn't want to use the ice scraper on my snowbrush because I didn't want to damage the paint on the car. So I left it the way it is for now. I'll probably have to wait for the ice/snow to melt off naturally...
That was my story, I don't know if I'm the only one, but if you have similar stories like this, please share it with us!

No... I can still open it, but when I got to probably a quarter of the way, the ice between the hinges began to crush. And trust me, the sound is awful =\
we get plenty of snow and ice here in chicago too. i keep my scraper in the rear seat floor (behind the driver's seat).
just do the best you can with snow/ice removal from the glass and get
as much loose snow off the roof. let the rest melt in the sun.
you might want to get a snowbrum. available through amazon.com (or autobarn).
