its really weird. ive read a couple of people have brought their cars into honda, but they did not find anything.

Oh that's not that abnormal -- I assume you mean it feels like first gear is spring loaded and headed towards second gear. I've had other cars do that. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

yeah yeah...

like right when i push the clutch in it moves torwards second, but my trouble is...sometimes it feels like its in second but isnt. and when i let go of the clutch thats when i get a small grind.

but other then that...so that is normal?(the springloaded feel)

It's not a locking mechanim. It has no synchros. This means spinning gears are grinding against spinning gears. If you use enough muscle, you can force it, but you might damage the transmission. The same is true with reverse. Always double clutch into first gear unless you're in a slow speed.

I know what you mean. You have to look at the ratios of the gear ratios

For the same speed, 2nd gear's RPM is about 1/2 as the first gear. This is the most dramatic drop of any upshift. 3000RPM in 1st gear is the same as 1500 RPM in 2nd gear. In other gears, 3000 RPM of (gear n) = 2500 RPM of (gear n+1)

Just release the clutch slower or later. And yes, wen I sprint, sometimes I wait for the needle to drop from 6500RPM to 3250 RPM, which takes a while, before I engage the clutch for a smooth ride. But other gears, 6500 RPM only needs to drop to maybe 4500 RPM with every successive upshift.

Here's a good graph
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...ios-chart.html

Notice for any given speed, the gap between first and second is the largest of any gap u can find on that graph.

is there a reason why yall are trying to shift into first while already moving? i learned that you're not supposed to engage 1st unless the car is absolutely stopped. i use 2nd to start if i'm moving even just a little bit. am i missing part of the great driving experience by skipping the crucial 2-1 downshift?? please fill me in

Certain cars can EASILY do it. I rented a BMW 520d in germany that I could flick it into first from second while moving with little to no pressure.

100% spot on. The jerkiness that a lot of people have shifting from 1-2 is due to the extra rpm drop, combined with the large engine braking effect you get in low gears with any car. Give the RPMS a bit longer to drop before releasing the clutch when shifting 1-2 and you'll be golden....
