3 star crash for the rear?

I just wanted to know if the rear seats are safe for my 3 year old? I seen that the civic has a 5 star for the rear. Did this go though anyone head before they bought there fit?

Im very touchy when it comes to crash ratings but i have no problems putting my wife and 10 month year old daughter in the back of mine. I was even thinking about buying one for the wife. There isnt a new honda on the market that i wouldnt put my family in. To me they are all safe. There is alot of other companies i wouldnt even let my wife test drive. Thats my .2 cents.

it probably got the three star rating because there is no enclosed trunk space to absorb the impact, also if an suv taps your rear hatch, your back window is shattered. i say, put your kids in there. im sure your parents drove you around in a car that had a half of a star rating. and you turned out ok. no use in being a worrying willy.

Very, very few car's get good or even decent crash rating's for the back(just check IIHS and NHTSA)impact's. I think only recently have car company's started to pay attention to it.(I think newer Volvo and Lexus's started to just recently)

i believe we have commented on this before, most recently I believe
it was in a thread that jdjohnson9 had started.

Crash test ratings are not cross class comparable

you cant compare a rear crash test rating from a Lincoln continental with
a Civic. They derive their ratings based off of other cars in their own class.

If I remember correctly the Versa scored better in the rear crash test
because of its more ample and supportive rear headrests.
It was said that the Fits headreasts did not support the occupant as
well as the Versa's did.
That is the only finding (from where I will have to look up again) I
noticed that specified why. From my tiny amount of reasoning I would
think this applies to larger more matured bodies rather than childrens.
(the test used an adult, if I remember correctly)
It was also on a Video I found online that even showed a profile view
comparison and what ratings each got.

I believe it was the rear center headrest that got the fit it's lower rating. Whenever I have three guys in the back I always tell the middle guy to pull the headrest up (better safe then whiplashed)

damn i hate safety ratings and regulations. "hey, lets sacrifice visibility out of the rear for the driver with these massive head rests just so the passengers dont get whiplash in a little bump in the rear."

i guess its better to change lanes on the freeway and not be able to see behind you and risk a catastrophe than having a little kink in your neck.

ive had whiplash before, FROM BANGIN MY HEAD TO METALLICA!! \m/

hahaha

true...my dad used to drive me around in a 240zx and I would just lay
down in the back if there was someone in the passenger seat!
I had to lay real low cuz people driving by could see in and we wouldnt
want cops to think this little guy is holding on for dear life. (although
interestingly enough there was this chrome bar back there that I would
hold on to) I still looked like a splayed frog in the back ...
ahhh yes good times

thats a riot...and unfortunately probably true...hahaaa

I think the new Mini is funny as hell to ride in. If you sit in the back you
basically can brush your ear on the rear glass.
In a classic mini its even funnier... you can basically lick the rear glass.
I can clean the rear glass while sitting in the drivers seat! ahahaaaa

check out MOALA.org (i was part of that group for a while, and will soon return)
and check out MiniMania.com too, on the listings you might see a classic
mini thats affordable to you.
I was getting ready to pick one up from my
friend at Miniguy.com but he ended up closing up his shop , but I ran into serious finacial trouble right after that so ....it wouldnt have worked out anyway.

I used to see 4-5k priced minis 5-7 years ago pretty easily...but now
not so much...especially with all the newer restictions in Cali...boooooo

Jazz GD3 - DAAAAAAAMN in a minis boot!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't fit my shoes back there....good thing you were not sporting dual battle tanks! hahahaa
anywho back to topic sorry
