does the fit idle higher when cold?

Its been rather cold where I live ~30 degrees F for a few days, and I have noticed that when I start my fit, which sits in a garage that is prob ~34 degrees, it idles at 1500rpm! Once my car has warmed up a fair amount, it idles at like 800rpm. Am I crazy? Why does it idle so high when cold? IS there anything I can do to get the rpm's down when idling?

Yes. It will idle faster when cold.

Idling faster helps pump the oil better when it's cold. Oil circulation is critical.

well since its idle higher that means its using more fuel correct?

Is there a way to make it warm up faster or start it warmer?

yup what he said. and driving it cold and getting the rpm even higher, but gently, will help circulate the oil even more.

its essentially the choke...better than having to do it yourself (trust us on that one...for the peeps with older cars )

you can make it warm up much faster if you drive it gently right away (its ok to do it and probably better for the car too, more circulation, as was said before) or haul a$$ right away ...it will heat up really quicky ...but...not so good with regards to wear and tear

what its also doing is intentially running the engine lean, which helps light off the cat faster, as well as moving more oil, it needs a higher idle to stay stable, and another reason it it programmed high is to warm the engine up as fast as possible for,..again emmisions reasons.

You should be in Cold Country to see how the "Hot Idle" works. LOL

With -30C it takes a long time to go off fast idle. I let it sit because putting an AT in reverse, cold trans. and fast idle may cause stress
on the tran. parts.

When my GFI kept tripping off 2 days ago I had to forego my usual 1 hr.
for the block heater. Took a long time for the idle to come down to 1,000
RPM. All my older carb. cars you could kick down the idle sooner
but don't know if it works the same on the Fit.
