When you are involved in an accident not your fault, ALWAYS call the officers in charge of such, typically the highway patrol. And it won't hurt if you caused it. The worst thing that can happen is 'the other person' decides to sue you with made-up charges and your only defense is that trafdfic report. If you think it doesn't matter just ask your insurance agent. There are so many 'nusiance' suits because insurance companies know its cheaper to pay than defend. And you pay the bill.

Yup, my wife got a police report. It's been very helpful, since the other person's insurance company had a hard time finding their policy!

If you have any kind of frame damage then you are looking at a lot more than $907 to fix it...more like $2000+. I almost got screwed when I got hit in the rear end of my Civic. It was a small impact with no visable damage. I was given a $800 estimate by the insurance company but the body shop needed another $2200 once the bumper cover was taken off. The car had to have a new steel enforcement bar behind the cover and the frame had to be pulled and straightened. Thank goodness I didn't cash the insurance check before taking it to the shop.
I took this comment to heart and had my body shop remove the bumper and check for any frame damage. There wasn't any, so I had them put the old bumper back on. The total cost was about $92, so I got to keep $800. However, on her way home from picking it up, my wife was rear-ended again! The car is in no worse shape, but she is, and the woman who hit her took off before the police came! So unless they find her (several other people called the police on this woman), I'll have to have my own insurance company handle it. I think my wife is afraid to drive my car now...

Wow, really sorry for your bad luck on the second accident.

Looks like the poster who said stuff happens to cars with issues can see the future. RG

That does seem to be the case, but then on the other hand, what if the car had been freshly fixed, with a whole new bumper, and THEN got smacked again? Sort of like replacing a cracked windshield, then having it broken again by a freeway pebble or a bird or something. Some stuff just happens.

Actually, that did happen to me. I had just picked up my Fiero from the body shop after getting the rear bumper replaced (a relative took a chunk out of it). On the way home, someone tapped me in the rear. Fortunately, it was just a tap. The actual collision was barely noticeable - no damage but still . . .
