Are dealers taking orders?
Does anyone know if Honda dealers are taking orders for the Fit/Jazz yet? I hope it's not one of the S2000 situations where dealers try to mark it up by 10k. Either way, I guess I should head over and put down a deposit.

If you think dealers will be doing a mark up, then why would Honda jeopardize trying to establish a niche in the sub-compact market. They want a piece of that pie that Scion is dominating with the xA and xB. Marking up the Fit/Jazz will scare away potential buyers who are seeking a non-hybrid fuel effiecient vehicle.

I hope so. But Honda can't always control what their dealers do. Manufacturers generally don't like dealers doing "added markups" b/c they feel like it hurts customer satisfaction and if there's additional money to be made, Honda will probably want a cut of the action.

No orders yet...
I went to my local dealer a couple of weeks ago and the sales person didn't even know what I was talking about when I mentioned the Jazz/Fit. Another sales person who overheard our conversation knew about the Fit, but they had no information on it yet. I gave him my name and told him to contact me when they did have info because I knew that I wanted to purchase one.
Why can Toyota post info about their 2007 Yaris on their homepage but Honda gives us basically no news about the Fit? It's frustrating!!
I'll post if I get the go ahead from the dealer.

Just to add my 2 cents, Honda will most likely release the Jazz in the USA as they need a car cheaper than the Civic and I think Honda prefers the gossip mill to spread the news. They need a car to compete with the Suzuki Swift and while I haven't had time yet to drive the Swift it's supposed to be very nice and a good price as well. I have no idea about the Swifts price in the US tho. For sure the Scions will be strong competitors there. We can't buy Scion here.
I doubt very much that the car will be called the Fit in America. Jazz maybe, but not Fit. I'd be willing to take a bet on that. :-)

Its already official that the Fit is coming to the US in Spring 2006 - https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/general-fit-talk/2392-its-official.html
My bet is that it will be named the Fit. All indications from the US Trademark Registration Office is pointing towards the Honda Fit name.

When I first heard it was going to called the Fit instead of Jazz, I thought that was weird. However, Honda apparently has a motorcycle called the Jazz, so that may be why they're not using the name. I think they should call it the jazz though! Who's going to confuse it with a motorcycle?

I can of course be wrong and I do know about the Jazz Scooter but many cars change over time. I just don'tthink that Fit has a marketing name that will work in the USA. For me it's just an exercise in thinking as here it's called the Jazz and I won't be going back to the USA except for an occaisional trip. I think Fit is a perfectly good name, i just don't think it's a very marketable name. Either way I like mine for city driving I am just over 400k and 12k/l in the city with the A/C on all the time. :-)

Its sold as a Jazz in every market in the world except the JDM. Even if its manufactured in Japan they stick the Jazz badge on the export models. Both Fit and Jazz names have been reserved by Honda in the US so they can choose to use either.
