Accelerating from stop up hill - Squeal?

Hi,

I have an AT fit. I was at a stop sign on a very steep hill a couple days ago. When I released the break to go, the car rolled back a foot or two before I was able to give it gas. I was somewhat anticipating that, as the hill was very steep, but I also heard a squeal/slip. I'm not absolutely sure, but it sounded like from the back. Anyone have any idea what that was?

I understand how torque converters work... and that it isn't good to go backwards while drive in an AT.. but I'm not sure sure what i could have done to prevent it (other than using two feet or go very quickly to the gas). The car seems fine.. but is there a chance I damaged something?

I would probaly expect a unusual noise, while rolling back then hitting the gas. The car is not use to/supposed to do that. Maybe next time left foot brake and build up the RPMs then let off the brake. That will probaly be better for the car.
Who knows, it could have even been tire squeal.

It could be your transmission yell at you not to do that again. I've rolled down a few hill's in my Automatic, but the only thing that happen's is a little jerk from the transmission as it get's into gear from going backward's.

Yeah, it sounded like tire squeal to me... except I couldn't figure out why the rear wheels would be squealing, since the fit is FWD. Oh well.. car seems fine.
