Motor misfiring

It seems the engine stutters or misfires at all rpm levels. In park, at a stop light, mild accel, hard accel it just misfires. Just changed all the plugs and filters i could find on the thing. Anyone got any ideas? Bone stock with 82k on the clock, 2007 btw, sport.

O2 sensors? Would it be benefical to hook it up to see if any codes pop up? No idiot lights are on.

Sounds like the engine is getting more fuel than it needs. Check to make sure everything around the intake and exhaust it tightened down.

Was it misfiring before the spark plug change? If not, maybe a plug wire got crossed?

yes it did misfire before the plug change, it also has no wires, appears the coils are right over the plugs.

Somebody has never changed the plugs on a Fit/Jazz or they would have known that there are no plug wires to cross. The sparking units go directly onto the top of the plugs.

Backfiring even after a plug change could be a fuel delivery problem. Has your fuel filter ever been changed? Can you hear the fuel pump if you turn the key to the second position on start up but NOT starting the engine.

Or go to your local parts store and buy a spray can of "starting fluid. CAREFULLY after checking for open flames or other ignition sources start the car and spray the fluid around the outside of the TB then check and see if you can find any cracks in you intake manifold. Continue spraying around the manifold listening to the idle speed and if it increases when you spray the TB or intake manifold. If it does increase speed or the misfire disappears then you have an air leak and or fuel delivery problem.

The Fits use a timing chain right? Not a belt?

I think you can hear the fuel pump, never really listened for it. I heard there is no fuel filter, or that the only one is in the tank, and should never need to be changed.

I dont know if its a chain or belt, the car sees mostly highway miles, nothing too hard that would cause it to skip a tooth.

It seems you know very little about your car ... yes it is chain driven and yes there IS A FUEL FILTER inside the fuel tank that should be changed at about 80,000 miles... coincidence or what???

No need to be a condescending. Maybe if you just tried to help out from the beginning instead of rediculing everyone for not knowing their car inside out we could actually get to some productive point in this thread. If every single person could diagnose and repair problems with their cars we'd have no need for mechanics.

I am not sure about the warranty because its my girlfriends car that she bought before we met. I asked about warranty and she said its long gone, but she might be mistaken. I will look into more now that you say that.

There should be a warrenty booklet that came with the Fit, it will give you details on how long and what is covered in the warrenty. Depending on the dealer, sounded like you had done some work on your own, so be warn some dealer might use it as excuse to charge you for not "Honda certified repair".

Powertrain Warranty on the Fit is 5 years or 60,000 miles - whichever comes first. So at 82k on his Fit, the warranty no longer applies. Unless it's a corrosion problem because the warranty on corrosion is 5 year/unlimited mileage.

We had a van that started acting similar, and it turned out to be a bad catalitic converter. Just an idea

Probably a good idea, if you have already tried to find leaks as Claymore described.

Since it's time for your fuel filter change anyway, you should probably go ahead with that. Every fuel filter has to be changed eventually, because, um, it's a filter. With that many miles on the car, it has to be mostly highway miles (as you stated). I would venture to guess that there have probably been a few times, while on the road, that you had to stop at a crappy gas station because the car was getting low and the distance to a "good" gas station was unknown. So who knows what kind of dirty mess might be in there? (Injectors, likewise. Have you tried any of that injector cleaner stuff?)

Barring going to the dealer, do you have a good mechanic that you trust? (I know they're rare, but I am fortunate enough to have one.) I am doubtful that it will be something that's covered under warranty after so many miles.

Good luck. Please let us know what you find to be the problem. Thanks.
