2009 Fit is lacking ..........

Dear Honda,
2009 Fit big pluses:
- telescopic steering wheel,
- better quality interior,
- USB plug for portable hard drives for music
- dual passenger glove boxes
- new steering wheel itself
- better fabric textures/colors

Big minuses:
- front end looks like platypus! Extension just does not work for me! Please don't give me 5mph regulation as an excuse, because it can be done with original JDM spec! If you kept it you cold have offered JDM Active Plus or Sports Neo bumpers as an option
- no rear disc brakes, yet again! make it available at least as a kit through parts department!
- real opening panoramic moon roof like a Mini Cooper! I would pay extra $1,500 instead for a NAV any day!
- NAV unit! You can buy portable NAV starting at $150, that is 1/10 of what you will charge for it! For $500 you can have a unit that runs circles around factory unit in options and features! 1st gen. portable unit did not sell because you were charging an arm and a leg for an entry level unit!
- wipers design! It is the same design as 1st gen. and they squeak due to poor design of passenger blade. You should have adapted them to work like current gen. Civic, period!
- rear bumper design! Please don't tell me that JDM version would not pass testing! They are almost identical!
- height adjustable driver seat! Telescopic steering wheel helps a lot over previous gen. lack of adjustment, but some US drivers are just as small as their Japanese counterparts! They will steel need booster seats to see over the dashboard!

What is going with a quality of paint? Is it the same crap without separate clear coat? It scratches way to easily even during gentle washing!

Is there a sporty Type S version in the pipeline?

Please make JDM accessories available through parts departments! Local dealers are selling Chinese made crappy key chains instead of Assimo key chain, for example! We would love JDM video recorders/cameras, rubber snow chains, color dashboard inserts, armrest with storage (dual glove box is not as accessible from the driver seat!), JDM suspension upgrades, Hella horns instead of pathetic sounding OEM, ............

Just look what Scion made available on US market! Dampers, superchargers, wheels, ..........

I understand that you are trying to make the car as affordable as it can get, but many of us can afford more, so make it available!

More to be added!

Ivan

Yeah, Honda should follow Scions lead. Just look at how great they are doing in the US! By the way, the supercharger option for the tC sounds good, but for the price a Civic Si is a better deal.
Scion on 16-month sales slump

Dude. The Fit is a subcompact. Cheapest car from Honda. What do you expect? This Fit isn't God's Chariot.

I like everything about my Fit, the only complaint I really agree with is the telescoping steering wheel.... oh and maybe a sunroof.

More glove box space? Really? You wouldn't believe how much stuff I can get into there!!

As said above, the front end really isn't long in person. The new hood lines make it look more like a civic than a fit, but it's still really not bad in person.

I'm sure honda would love to assume the liability of people redoing their brakes on their own.

Agreed!

Also agreed. When I had a Supra, there was a dealership in Texas that would order Japanese parts just like they were regular USA Toyota parts.

It's strange, I've got like the cheapest Jazz (or Fit..) available in The Netherlands (1.2i cool) and I've got disc brakes all around....

i don't think it looks that bad.

but as far as brakes go, i have to say that it would be hard to offer disc brakes on the fit, even the highest trim, without making them standard on the civic on trim levels other than the ex and si. (they should take mazda's approach and do discs all around like on the 3.)

in honda's eyes it would be stepping on the civics toes almost.

so you figure if the next gen civic gets em, maybe the next gen sport will have em too.

More pros and cons...

I'd have to say one of the biggest cons to be honest, is the little ventilation switch... It's still a cheap lever that you push right/left for air circulation. I think the JDM might be electronic...

i dunno about VSA... I'd rather have all around disc brakes than VSA.

You forgot one very important positive feature though... and that's the added dead pedal.

Honestly, I prefer the JDM look. Even if the front doesn't look as long in person, take both the USDM and JDM (side profile) pics side by side, and you can definitely notice the increase in length.

The 09 fit is not a go for me.

Rear disc brakes can be added aftermarket. Can't really do the same with VSA.

VSA is a proven technology that saves lives. Comparing VSA to the aesthetics of having disc brakes at all four corners is absurd.

Oh I didnt mean to compare the two side by side. I just meant, it would have been nice if Honda provided 4 disc brakes as a stock option. I don't mind not having VSA.

is it that rare? doesnt seem too popular to be honest. it looked pretty popular when it first arrived considering there were waiting lists for them, but now it just seems like no one really desires for one as much, especially where there are a lot of other cars to choose from in terms of its price range..

the new fit is still not exactly a car that you see absolutely everywhere, and once the new one comes out, we'll see even more than that, though i doubt even the new fit will be as widespread as the new civic for example.

at any rate, even the current gen fit doesn't stay on dealer lots to long, even base models. true, there may not be wating lists anymore, but that doesnt mean its not poplular.

go to cars.com and run a search for used fits in a 100 mile radius from where you live. you'll be suprised how little you will find.
