Thinking of Getting a Fit

I have been considering getting myself a Fit as my daily driver, mainly to/from work and college. (My college is about 50 miles (one direction) away from home. I am trying to avoid moving out!) I wouldn't be able to buy one until late June or July, but I do however have some questions/concerns about getting one.

1) I am a fairly sizable guy (both height and weight), would I have a problem fitting in a Fit?
1a) Even if I did fit, would I look out of place or funny doing so?
2) Should I buy a 2008 or wait for the 2009's? I like the styling (particularly the interior) and the iPod adapter is a big plus. (I never go anywhere without it!)
2a) Does anyone know if the 2009's will cost more? Budget is a big thing here.
2b) Does anyone know around when the 09's will come out?
3) What are my chances of getting an Automatic Sport for $17,000 out the door, assuming I go for a 2008? (Tax, Title, Paperwork, etc.) If the 09's will cost considerably more, I will probably get an 08.

These are just some odds and ends questions that I haven't found answers to. Some of these stem from my experience in owning an Aztek and the features it has. Some are entirely just random curiosities.

4) How many keys and/or remotes does a new fit come with?
5)Does it have a MPG monitor. (My Aztek has one, and it is quite convenient!)
6)How about an oil life monitor?
7)Do the headlights turn on automatically? (Aztek does this and it is quite convenient!)

That's all for now, but I'm sure I will come up with more! I hope all of this was not too hard to read!

k well im 5" 10 and about 200 lbs.

im not big but decent sized i would say. i dont look funny in the car.(at least i hope not)

this is a great car if you travel 50 miles per day. it does not calculate the mpgs, and the headlights do not turn on automatically. if it is an issue with the headlights im pretty sure someone can guide you on wiring it up that way.

your aztec has alot more features then the fit. personally i think the fit is way better looking aswell.

it does have an oil life moniter. but i still dont trust that thing. ever 4-5k mile oil change is still recommended in my opinion.

good luck with your decision. welcome to the forum

whos to say yet how reliable the 09's will be. theres a whole forum here about the 1st gen's and it seems to be going well :3
good luck and Welcome to FitFreak!

The Fit sounds like it would be a great choice for you. Im only 5'7 130lbs, but my dad is 6'2 a tad over 200lbs and he drives it comfotably.

The Fit comes with two remote keys

No MPG monitor, but you can get a scanguage to do that

Yes oil life monitor

No auto headlights

Hope i helped a little bit! Good luck!

As everyone before has posted yes the fit has some of the features you are looking for but for a brand new Honda for that price you have to expect that you are gonna have to sacrifice some of your list if you want a new car. Not saying its a bad thing to want all that just saying that for the price range on a new Honda your not gonna find all of them. With all that said the Fit sounds like it would be a very good car for you. Im 6'2" and weigh about 180 and have no real issues with short trips but it does take a little getting used to the seat position on longer trips. I would also say that getting an 08 would def be better for you cause the 09's will prob be more expensive making it more of a challenge for someone on a budget. Good luck and if you have more questions hit us up.

The 09 is a bit larger and heavier and will list for about $450 more.
I have an 08 Sport and am 6'1, 235 lb. My biggest friend is 6-7 and weighs 288 lb; he rides fine in front but not rear so he automatically gets navigator status. The 09 Fit supposedly has 2 more inches rear knee room which is nice but not particularly useful. The 09 reputedly gets 119 hp but torque not appreciably greater. Torque is acceleration; hp is top speed.
I'd advise getting an 08 wherever you can find the best deal No reason you can't beat $17000 with taxes and license., I did. Straight cash deal.

Your best bet if you think your size will be an issue is, to actually get in one and see how it feels. That's a no brainer.
As for the 09's, sure they'll cost more and getting a deal will be tougher, but, that said, there's apparently more leg room for the driver as well as the passengers in the back.
Someone above said that 2" isn't that big an issue, but if I were given the option of 2" more inches of room for the rear passengers, or not, I'd take the extra room, again, a no brainer.

My issue with the 09 will be, it's a first year car of a new generation.
Rule #1 when buying a new car, never buy a first year model - potential probems are a greater risk.
I'm gonna have to figure out if I should grab an 08 when they're trying to get rid of them, or wait for the '10. Which is a long way away.

As far as buying a new model the first year it's offered, I bought an '84 Civic Wagon when it came out. It was a new model and the best car I ever had. Also the only new car I ever bought. I had it for 14 years. Drove back and forth, up and down around the US and never had a problem. Except towards the end of it's life, from wear and tear.
My car might of been the exception to the rule, but it might also have been that it was a Honda?
I'm waiting for the '09, just hoping my present car hangs in without having to put any more money into it. I'll be riding on snows this summer, so I don't have to buy new tires.

And I agree with previous posts. Go sit in and test drive one.

Check out the Toyota Corolla. More power, about the same gas mileage and more room overall. The Fit is rated as great gas mileage but you will strain to get it with no power under the hood.

The second generation Fit came out in Japan in October 2007. We in North America will see the 2009 in the fall, making it a second year model.

first year model.
the jazz/fit has been out in europe, asia since 2001.
though we only got it in 06'.
that doesnt make it 7 years since its been out, only 2.
USDM specs have different regulations to pass so this will be our first year of 2nd gen.
no offense. but its true.

I beg to differ. To each their own.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I have been reading and lurking... just never got around to posting! I will generally reply to everyone who has responded.

1)I never expected the Fit to have all of the Features my Aztek does, especially for that price! I am just so used to having these things (auto headlights, MPG monitor, etc.) that it will require some adjustment. (If I get a Fit, I really will miss my Heads Up Display! I won't know what to do without it!)

2) I definitely plan on taking one on a test drive, I just hate to go to the dealer and put up with all of that hassle, especially since I wouldn't potentially be buying one for a few months.

3) As for getting an '08 or an '09, I'm torn. I change my mind every other day on this. On one hand, the '08s have had a chance to have the kinks worked out, they will be (somewhat of) a rare car, and I stand a better chance of getting a good deal. On the other hand, the '09's will have more room, more power (albeit not much), more features, better MPG, but it will cost more. (Although if it is only $450 more that is not much. I just don't know what my chances of getting a good deal would be, since it would be new.) I'm not in desperate need of a new car so I could definitely wait for their release if I so decide.

That doesnt sound like a bad idea. When the 09's hit the streets you may still have a chance to get your hands on an 08 as well. It will prob be a bit of a pain but i would think that there would be one somewhere and the dealer would drop the price to get it off the lot and room for more 09's. Its worth a shot and i hope that if you do decide to get one it all works out for you. Catch you on the threads

Why don't you wait until you can see both vehicles "in the flesh." The way a car looks is a big factor for most of us, I believe. I personally like the semi-retro appearance the 07-08, with the 09 a bit too futuristic for my taste. I also like the notion of having a car that will probably become a classic. I am a new owner (just over one week) of a MR Sport manual. What a blast it is to drive! And I've been getting raves from my friends about the versatility of the seats and interior. A frequent poster on this site, GAFIT, said there's "something special" about the Fit, and he's right.

Classics are (and I hate to say it...) older American muscle cars and other fine European cars from way back.

The Honda Fit will never be considered a classic, you kidding?
lol

Get a Fit !

I am 47 and big at around 240. I used to drive a 2000 Ford F-150 Supercab that sucked gas (try a $74.00+ fillup). I did tons of car reseach on the net and I fell in love with the Fit. Good mileage, it can carry loads and a bit sporty. Perfect to get me to work and to the store on occasion. Go test drive a Fit and check out the reviews on the web. Edmunds, Consumer Reports, Intellichoice, etc....

Good luck!

It would be nice if the Fit had an MPG monitor, but easy enough to do the math when you fill up and just set one of the trip odometers to zero and see how long it lasts. After market products would be a good idea if you just have to have it.

Automatic headlights? I used to have those damn day "running" lights on a VW (they were always on), and it annoyed the hell out of me. I would think it wouldn't be too hard to adjust to flipping them on and off manually.

I'll echo everyone here and say you'll probably get the best deal on the '08. It'll also be easier to find, although the current model is selling just fine even with the new ones on the way.

I've never run in to anyone who had a problem fitting in the front seats. Overall I think it's a really comfy ride for most everybody (always an exception though).

How can daytime running lights annoy you, you don't even see them. Brett, at the end of the day it saves lives, maybe yours one day.
