Fit in the New York Times
Hi Fellow Fitfreaks,
Here's a link to an article in today's NY Times online about how Americans are flocking to gas-sipping subcompacts:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/02/bu...02auto.html?hp
The Fit is at the top of the list, with 54% sales growth between April '07 and April '08.
I picked up my MR Sport manual last month and have had many positive comments on it -- though the first question I inevitably get is "Is it a hybrid?" One guy said, in a cynical voice, "Oh, you have a green car," and I said, "Uh, last time I looked it was red."
I am loving this car. Nimble, great-looking, super shifter, excellent gas mileage (mid-30s so far, though I want to try to hit 40 using mild hypermiling techniques on a road trip to Pennsylvania that my wife and I will be taking later this month).
Go Fit!

great find... IM happy to see at least some americans are changing their views on driving gas guzzling tanks! as much as I hate paying this much for gas... if it is encoraging people to drive smaller cars then it is helping the planet... wich is a good thing
that was the exact response I got when my friends heard that I was looking to get one....
I took my Fit into the Honda dealer to have the TPMS reset yesterday. The Service manager asked how I like the Fit. He was considering getting one because his Ridgeline was eating him out of house and home. LOL
The article and a picture of a Fit was on the front page of the New York Times, above the fold!!!
This is awesome exposure for the Fit, and for small cars in general.
This is a step in the right direction for the United States.
Although two of the top three best selling vehicles are still trucks.
One day, just maybe, cars wouldn't have to burn fuel.

With this shift in drivers' preferences, I believe Honda will be able to sell a lot of Fits here next year. It will be interesting to see if they begin to export more of the '09s to the US -- clearly the car is proving more popular here than they projected. Hey, those of us driving '07s and '08s will soon own classics! There may be lots of Fits on US highways from now on, but only a limited number of the (better-looking) older gen.
By the way, I checked mileage on my first tankful, and it was 34.9 (manual transmission). I'm satisfied with that, as the car only has 300 miles on it so it's still in the break-in phase.

hahaha that's great! I was getting alot of attention on MR fit too. One of the guy has asked me if my car was Hybrid and I said no. Then he asked me how many mpg I'm getting. I said depends on how I drive but I'm getting 36-38mpg, his jaw dropped and said that "Wow that's like getting a pay raise" haha

^^
Im glad i was a part of that increase! Anybody else bought theirs during those times?
I bought mine in April of this year. A friend, who had been following my research into which subcompact to get (the Fit was a stand-alone top choice), surprised me by going out and buying one off the lot the weekend before I picked mine up. I had to wait for my MR Sport, whereas my friend bought a BBP Sport manual that a dealer happened to have in stock. So I guess we're part of Honda's record month where the Fit is concerned.

The dealer - one of the largest Honda dealerships in CO - told me they can only keep two to four in stock at any given time. When I took delivery, there were only two others available. The most I saw available at a dealer was seven - those were all AT, and mostly base. Meanwhile, my dealer's lot is packed with CRVs, Pilots and Ridgelines.

With gas approaching $4 a gallon of course Americans are flocking to high mpg vehicles.
Just as a side note, be glad Hillary isn't likely to be president; just imagine what our gas would cost if a woman negotiated with the OPEC Muslims.
Can you say more than 46 a gallon ... before taxes.
PS you can thank NC which if memory serves told the prior Clinton (Bill) when he went to NC he needs to bring a bodyguard.
