A/C problems?

A/C problems?
Anyone else feel that when you are using the AC your gas seems to dwindle down the drain? I went for a drive to school which was about 2 miles back and forth, it was so hot so i turned on the AC and i left it on 1 my gas was 3/4 i came home and it was 1/2? Anyone else have this problem with their fit?

It's NORMAL operation. The A/C compressor is run by the Jazz/Fit engine causing increased fuel consumption. It's the same with any car with engine driven A/C. Live with it or drive around hot your choice.

As much as I hate to waste my new car smell, I'd rather open my windows than turn on the AC. I only use the AC when I'm at a cruising speed on the freeway.

I picked up my 2008 Fit a few months ago and we are in our open window time down here. I have established a solid 42mpg average over many tanks, with maybe 5% A/C use. The heat is about to turn up and it will be interesting to see how my avg is say in June or July when it's on all the time.
I can say this. I did watch my SG and looking at the fuel used real time and noted when I turn it on when cruising, the fall off is dramatic like 5mpg less for the 1st 4 min or so, then I saw was it improve to maybe 1mph less than normal after the compressor high head had come down and the systems was normal.

If you have been checking your mileage normally, you should run the A/C for a full tank and see how it seems compared to without it.
I typically average about 31 mpg and when I run the A/C, it's probably closer to 29.5 or 30.

Mileage on these cars sucks compared to the window sticker. It's so easy to get low 30's in these cars on the highway (NJ/NY style roads). In mixed driving with A/C mostly city/urban driving I get around 24.5-maybe 28mpg.
Reminds me that when I rented a Toyota Corolla under the same driving conditions, I eecked out 33mpg on state highway driving. The Toy had more power and more room overall. The only positive for the Fit is it looks cooler especially jazzed up.

I must have a rare edition FIT sp auto. Always run a/c except on those rare 1 day cold snaps we get in south FL...lol. Pretty much 90% city/10% hwy driving and as of late I have been getting 33-36mpg....So far imo the only downfall of getting this car is the sound system...I miss my element's subwoofr...made all the difference. Wait thats it! no sub that has got to be it...jk lol.

psssh sometimes when it gets too hot. (when im sweating in my car while driving) thats when i say, i dont care about the gas! i just want to drive comfortably and happy. i dont want to get to my destination point soaking wet, and besides i thought using your a/c saved more gas then throwing the windows down.

Hmmm that is right most of you guys are from FL and CA so I suppose despite rolling the windows down it is still hot. By me in the summer you can usually roll down your windows and the breeze is more than enough to cool you down unless it is a really humid day.

but in texas, ughhh
sometimes you just need the a/c
