Advice from old racer, engineer, car builder and owner of a Yenko 396 Chevelle:
1. the fit is the best cornering & driver's car in the econobox catagory by far. (I've owned a Versa and driven the little Toy for 200 miles)
All you need to do it put better tires and wheels and disconnect front antisway bar unless you like overwhelming understeer. (Our resident G8 owner said my Fit had more understeer than his car but then he has soooo much more power it doesn't matter. He only gets 14-15 mpg so he drives his Honda Civic almost all the time now.)
I have had my Fit Sport auto (First auto in 55 years so I can pretend to be Schumacher) due to advancing age on track fitted with Hankook 205/40x17 tires on Enkei 17" rims with 42 mm offset and although it wont break 100 at VIR (it will on long flat ground) it holds its own on corners. Lap times at least are pretty good for 1.5L street cars, around 2:50 but it does take a week down both straights. (see "hyundai sundae at vir" on you tube for comparison)
The only things I can also recommend are a mild lowering (ca 1 to 1.5") based on customer cars using wheels with 45 mm offset ( my car isn't lowered for convenience) or disc rear brakes (A&J Racing) installed on my car which offers a little better braking & control (besides freaking out Fit owners and dealer salespeople. they come and look after spotting the JAZZ emblem on thr trunk.)
Oh and if carry heavier loads like my fat friends in the back seat Monroe MA811 (Cavalier 84-92. check posts for good photos) air shocks are a necessity.
After that if you don't enjoy driving your Fit getting 30 mpg you may be asked to give up your car guy racer membership. Oh and you will NOT even think about outdragging the guy in the next lane unless he's on a bicycle, not a motorcycle. Even if you get an '09 Fit with 120 hp, 9 seconds is a long time to 60.
Good luck.

I just bought a 2008 Fit Sport MT last week and paid $15,195 including the destination. Under invoice is still a reality here in PA.
