Dropped it off to the Collision Repair place Monday. Called today, they said the estimate BEFORE he started taking anything apart was at $6,000 and that there is significant frame damage front and back on the right side so it may be totaled. Since it will be close they need to itemize every little detail before they can decide and then go ahead either way. I should know in a couple days. I'll keep you guys posted.

Try to get them to total it, you'll for sure want them to if there is frame damage.

What sucks is that non of your airbags deployed, they'd definitely totaled it then. But I still think it will be, especially since there is frame damage...it is very difficult to repair a unibody.

And about what you said before, about having a loss. Basically, if you owe more then the car is worth, thats when GAP comes into play. So if you owe 15K, and they say the car is only worth 14K, gap will pay the extra 1,000 bucks.

When my fit was totaled, it was a year and a half old, and the offer they gave me was 16,800. So I never used my gap insurance. But, they refunded me my gap insurance (a portion of it anyway).

So yes, you may be at a loss, but if you had a trade-in and what not, you'll probably be on the higher side, and they may pay over what you owe. On top of that, if you get any medical, those two things should cover your next down payment.

You may get lucky. However, I dont think Id want my car if the damage looked that bad.
Sorry dude. :-(
You ok at least? Thats a massive hit.
I'd have to agree. I'd just total it out & get another.
Sorry for your loss.

There was no side or front collision from what I see. So no need for the Airbags to deploy. If they did it would be totaled no question. Another thing the car does not have a frame. It is a UNIBODY. Because the Hit was high it is mostly sheet metal and structure.

With out seeing it there is n way to tell the extent. A few good hours on a Bench to get the rear quarter pulled and the shop will have a much better idea.

Which ever insurance you are going with they will run a grid to determine if it is a total.

LIKE THIS:
ESTIMATE TOTAL
+
LOSS OF USE
(30x # of days)
+
POSSIBLE SUPPLEMENT
(Anything that isn't on
the est that could be damaged)
=
X

ACTUAL CASH VALUE
+
LOU
($60 if any LOU)
+
SALVAGE VALUE
(What the heap will sell
for at auction)
=
Y

IF X > Y It is a total.

I hope you paid a good deal off already or have GAP if you are over your head if it does total.

If you are going through the other parties ins make sure to be compensated for diminished value.

If you have any questions PM me I'm an Adjuster.

I am now the proud owner of a NHBP 5AT Sport. I will be getting enough money back for a good down payment this week. The dealership is holding my check in the mean time. I got my payments $1 cheaper than I was paying for my Base since I opted out of the extended warranty this time. I'll post pics once I get my map light, coin holder, floor mats, bike rack, etc. back in...

Hooray for happy endings. Also, I'll probably wanna remove the spoiler relatively soon.

Just curious, why remove the spoiler?

I've always had a personal thing against spoilers. I dunno. I think the spoiler on the Fit is one of the most tasteful I've seen but since I also would like to differentiate my Fit I figure taking it off would be cool.

that sport spoiler isn't really big enough to be a "spoiler"... i'd leave it on.

I see. The Fit spoiler is pretty small and non-intrusive, but different strokes I guess. I'd worry about the holes being exposed after you take it off though. That seems like a prime area for rust to start.

At least it's not one of those giant two foot high, four foot wide "2fast2furious" spoilers I see all the time. Usually on front wheel drive cars too. Tacky.

There was an Integra in the area that had the large aluminum F&F type spoiler. The really hilarious thing was the airfoil was mounted backwards, with the sharp trailing edge forward and the rounded front of the wing at the back.
