The other option is to grab a cheap taser. Tase yourself in the leg before you get out so that when you step out of the car, the shock from the car seems minimal.

That, or skip the idea of the actual taser and for simple everyday fun, as you step out of the car, simply scream "DON'T TASE ME, BRO!!!"

Wear leather or something that doesn't cause static. I only get shocked when the weather is dry or windy. The only thing touching the ground from your car are your tires, which is an insulation like material. So when your clothing rubs on the the chair there's no GROUND, but when you touch the ground, you get shocked because the positive or negative charges stablize and move to the ground. Maybe metalic seats will prevent the shocking. Hehehe. or you can put foil somewhere between you and the seat to get the electrons to stablize through the conductor. But watch out, the wind can still generate static electricity on your whole car, and when you touch the ground while touching your car, you act as the conductor. Therefore, you are the shocking one!

Man, its getting bad. The thing shocks me all the time. For example:

I get in my car in the morning and fire it up for the kids and turn on the heater. I then exit the car immediatly and it shocks the crap out of me. I'll come back, load the kids and drive down the black to the mail box to deposit my netflix, get out and it shocks me again. It should be doing that!

That makes me really worry about filling ups at the ol gas station.

Before you get out of the car and after the open the door, just touch the metallic hinge thing that uses to keep the door in place (when it's closed) to discharge the electricity.

Its kind of a pain
If I had a dollar for every time my Fit has shocked me, the car would be paid off by now! The only time I don't get zapped is when it's raining. I'll probably never get used to it, I just deal with it. I usually discharge myself through my knuckle - it's less painful.

Make absolutely sure you discharge yourself immediately at the gas station, and whatever you do, do not re-enter the car when filling the gas tank.

How are you all getting shocked? I've never been shocked exiting a car in any car I've driven. I can't imagine I'm doing something differently than everyone else...

You should be

Never ever get in and out of your car while you are in the process of filling. There is a video of this floating around, some girl talking on her cell goes and sits in the car then gets out and goes over to the gas pump and POOF..... flames everywhere!

I wonder why filling stations don't have a line to discharge static while fueling. All aviation fuel delivery trucks and stationary pumps have a static discharge line which the fueler connects, usually through an alligator clip, to the airframe before they begin to fuel the aircraft. A simple, and cheap safety precaution. Why anyone needs to talk on a cell phone while fueling a car is beyond my comprehension, even if there was no safety risk. God help us all if the Federal Aviation Administration allows passengers to use cell phones in flight. It's bad enough that everyone has to make a call as soon as the aircraft taxis clear of the runway.
