New Fit owner

So last Saturday I had an appointment to drive a Smartcar. Have to admit it was pretty cool, just a 2 seater but surprisingly roomy. The only thing that completely turned me off of the idea was the waiting period 1 year. So it was off to my next test drive, a Honda Civic.

I already own a Honda Pilot, and had an Odyssey before that, as far as I'm concerned there aren't many, if any, cars as reliable as Hondas.

I didnt want a large car payment so I decided on a used Civic. The salesman said he could get me in a used 05 Civic OR Accord for the same price - $14,000 - $16,000. One of my sons friends has a Fit and was showing it to me a few weeks ago, so I asked the salesman about the Fit. He said new was around $16,000. I was test driving one about 10 minutes later. I was surprised with how much room, even for four, there was in there. Granted it didnt have the pickup of my 5.7L Dodge 1500 that I'd been driving. But then again it wouldn't require the $80-$90 a week in gas either. But what really won me over was the maneuverability. Man this car really flies around corners. Before I was halfway done with the test drive I decided I had to have this car.

My next concern was how much I could get for my 2004 Dodge 1500. With truck and SUV prices plummeting, I was afraid I would get next to nothing. On Sunday I went back to the dealer, let the wife drive it. She was a little less ensued as I was, but she liked it. I told her that if the salesman offered me $10,000 or more for the truck, I would take it. He came back with $11,000, I asked for $12,000, and we settled on $11,500.

Started the paperwork on Sunday, finished up Monday at lunch, and left the lot with it. Milano red Sport AT. I considered the manual, but there is a chance I might have to let the wife drive it now and again, so it had to be automatic. Not to mention my teenage son who took off with it as soon as he got off work.

Congrads on your At Fit

Having bought the South African model with 7speed CVT transmission, i would like to confirm that the US model does employ a standard 5-Speed Automatic Transmission. Enjoy your car

gooback - nice purchase. My friend has a Ram 1500 and I cringe everytime he tells me how much he had to fill up.

7-speed? I thought CVT's were infinity-speed?

fuel consumption on the 7speed

I love driving this car!! Consumption is around 6.5liter per 100km in mostly city driving, having done 4 000km in 6 weeks. It has the 1.5 liter VTECH engin with 81KW (108hp), and it goes as well

7 speed CVT

With this gearbox you have the choice of using full automatic, let the gearbox simulate 7 gears in a auto gearbox or operate the gears with paddle shifters on the steering wheel, with almost full controll.
