Should I get a Fit?

Hey guys, I'm new to these forums, but I have a question for you.
Should I get a Fit?
I am looking to buy a car this summer, when college lets out in May. I have a 97 LS Integra now with some mods...it's pushing around 170HP and I'm just looking to upgrade. I have always been a huge Honda fan so the first place I checked for a new car was the Honda Dealership. I checked out the new Civics, which I loved, but with the stuff I want it'll run me about $20,000 and I only have about $17,000 which I can spend. Also, I spend a lot of time moving stuff around and especially next year when I will have to move into an apartment off campus; so I need something bigger than my teggy or the Civic. I test drove both the Civic and Fit and was surprised. I didn't think I'd like the Fit's 109HP but it was so much fun to drive. It was obviously slower than the Civic, but it had the whole Honda spirit alive in it.
I was also able to test drive a Scion xD and Nissan Versa...I enjoyed the ride of the xD, but didn't think it offered anything better than the Fit (especially it's back seat space versatility, it sucks); not to mention, it is more expensive. The Nissan Versa was neat with it's 6th gear, but I felt it was draggy at high speeds. I also prefer the look of the Fit compared to the Versa.
Anyway, right now I am deciding between the Fit and xD, because of the ability to turbo/supercharge the xD without voiding the warranty.
I would prefer the Fit but would like to know if there's anything about it that you really like or that really bothers you. For example, I noticed the Fit does not have an arm rest or a dead pedal...both of which I don't really care for, but is there anything else I should know about.

Sorry about this post being so long.

Funny you say the Fit is slower than the 8th gen civics... I always thought my Fit was just as quick if not quicker than my 8th gen. Then again I went from an auto civic to a manual Fit.

I just traded in my 06 Si for the Fit and have no regrets. For the price range you are looking at it is the best "bang for your buck". It is a really fun car and what it lacks in power, it makes up in versatility.

yeah, that's how I felt, mikef1182. Thanks for the thread TOOL.
Also, I was going to get the Fit Sport (Manual) and I now have to choose between the Vivid Blue, Black, or White...those looked the best to me.

FYI, you can't get Taffeta White anymore, so you'll have to find a used 2007 to get it in white. They only make white on 2008 models in Canada.

That should help you narrow down your choices .

Having owned a Nissan...don't buy the Versa. It's a car built in Mexico by a French company. As for the xD, my wife and I test drove all of the Scion's and just didn't feel the quality was there. I could easily push my finger through any of their dashes and they all had a "cheap" feel to us. The Fit lacks power, but is a lot of fun. I'd probably wait for the '09 because the addition of a dead pedal and armrest and the highway straightline charactersistics are supposed to be improved.

Got rid of my 2007 STI for it and have no regret's.I'm along time Honda fan(over 10 year's)and when I saw the Fit,I knew that was my next car,and it was. I don't miss the armrest at all,but if you want one,you can go to zeta's website and a few other's make one also. The Fit is by far the best small car on the market and Car and Driver's 10 Best.Keep us updated on your decision.

I've looked at some of the '09 pictures and I have to say I like the look of the 07/08's better...I understand the performance comes with it, and it is nice, but I like the edgier look of the 1st Gen Fits.

I recommend the Fit! I also agree that I like the looks of the 1st gens better than what's coming later this year. Also, it would probably be better to get a first gen since this is the last year for the first gen. Any previous problems wouldve been ironed out since production began in '01. Its a fun car to drive...im happy with the 109 HP.

The Fit is incredibly versatile and fun. A really great combination and I would have to say a rare combo as well.

I say go snatch one up.
I could sit and complain about any car just about all day long for a plethora of reasons. Some personal, some WTF?, and some very apropos.

I would definately go and do more test drives and think about how you will
be using it in the future.

Good luck and I hope you get one!

Go get the fit man. It really has all the characteristics a car should have; great handling, lightweight, great on gas, huge space, looks, all in all its a very versatile car and great for the price.

You say you spend alot of time moving stuff around. That's just about the reason why I got my fit. I'm still amused about what kinda stuff I've carried in my fit before. Here's a list of stuff I've carried.

1. 4 19 inch Rays Alloy Wheels with tire for a friend who couldn't fit it in his car.
2. A 600 watt fan that was about 4 feet tall and 4 feet wide! lol...don't ask, it's hard to explain.
3. 8 2ft by 4ft by 1.5ft coolers and a dolly to deliver from a shop.
4. Trip to Las Vegas with 3 other people and all our luggages which took only 1 tank of gas (less than 10.8 gal) to get there.
5. 300 lbs of sugar along with lots more room for groceries to drop off to my parent's shop. Makes my car look lowered.
6. about 8 case of beer and 20 cases of 12 pack soda that I needed to drop off at a big party.

I do agree that the fit lacks power, but the space and fuel efficiency and convience of moving stuff makes up for it. It's up to you if you want to sacrifice power for convience. But coming from someone who moves alot of weird stuff around, "The fit will save you a lot of headache when moving stuff."

Sounds like a good car for you. The biggest thing I'd research before buying is the unusual seating position. The reach for the pedals and steering wheel is different than anything I've driven and it has taken some adjustment to find a comfy position. It's close, but could be better for me. But not a deal breaker for what I'm using it for.

I say go for the Fit. The cargo room is better utilized and (IMO) the Fit is better looking.

After owning 4 domestic cars, the Honda is a very nice change. I haven't owned it long, but I love it lots!

this may be kind of off topic, but where do you see the xD having an available turbo/supercharger setup that does not void the warranty?

the only factory supercharger I've seen on Scion is the TRD one for the 2.4 engine, which the xD does not come with
