Willing to lose weight- spare tire

Anyone willing to ditch the spare tire/wheel and tool kit to improve mpgs?

I was thinking to trying it, and even removing the rear floor carpet/cover.
While I am at it, are the rear seat easily removable?

man...i improved alot over all when i took out the rear seats, the spare tire, the floor mats, the front passenger seat, the seat belt for that passenger seat, all the rear seat belts.

improved acceleration, and gas mileage

rear seats are super easy...just 4 bolts.

If you remove your spare you could pick up a cheap 12v air compressor and a plug kit from autozone.
About $30 and it weighs about a pound.

I have the same setup and the last time I got a flat I was able to plug and fill the spare on the side of the road without jacking up the car or removing the tire. The plug lasted 20,000 miles until I needed new tires.

It will keep you safe as long as your tire does not get shredded or knocked off of its bead. In that case it may pay to have AAA.

Im pretty sure that weight saved from removing the spare has a marginal effect when comparing it to being stuck on the side of the road somewhere.

I just dont get all the weight saving stuff. These cars arent meant to haul a$$

I really, really hope that it is. I would never go that extreme just to save some MPG and get a little bit better acceleration.

spare

I was thinking about removing it too. However, on a long day of driving with a total of 4 people in my Fit, I still got 35 mpg. So I really doubt removing just the spare will do anything.

Not me. I'll keep the seats and spare just in case. Plus I have no room in the garage to store the stuff. (I really need to have a garage sale one day)

why would i joked around.

i was going to take my car to the track to see if i could beat a 3rd gen prelude.

but when i got lazy to put it all back, i noticed all those. there is really a huge difference if you really did take all those out. i mean i felt my car was super sluggish instead of just slug heh

Why dont you guys also drive around with only one gallon of gas too...it would save you from lugging around almost 55 lbs worth of the remaining 10 gallon tank.
