It's obviously a matter of preference. If they can do the same with the new Fit that's all well and dandy but neither my wife nor I will like it. Preliminary reports say that's not the case, anyway.

I'm just glad the wife won't be wanting to go trade-in anytime soon.

can you elaborate why? do you just like a rough riding car? a bumpy/rough ride is NOT a prerequisite of handling, just ask BMW.

if honda can make this car grip harder, brake faster and keep a comparable slalom time as the current car, they will have succeded.

and remember, those 'hard ride' comments in reviews were being shot at the jdm version, which has to endure worse streets than ours here in the states, hence the criticism. no real tests of the usdm car have been made yet.

It could happen if the engine design is different and it IS slightly different from what I understand. Honda's selling point with this car is fuel economy and I am sure they are not going to make it even less economical for more power.

i know, thats exactly my point, one has to take the lead you can only have both if you have a small sacrifice in one. (in this case only 9hp more, but better f.e. overall.)

That's a big if.

If there's any truth to that it kinda blows that theory.

I don't need the newest biggest and best. Frankly I much prefer the looks of the older car and the handling suits us fine as is. I simply don't see the current Fit as being a bumpy or rough ride.

I'm not talking about interior. I'm saying the wheelbase increase and overall length increase. The change takes away the cute factor.

thats ok with me. let the vw bug be cute. the newer safety alone is more than worth the increase.

hmm...i'm still a bit confused, you seem to insinuate that you liked the bumpy ride, but now it seems you didn't think the fit had one to begin with?

everyone has an opinion, but man, if the fit could ride as smoothly as my rabbit did and handle better, it would be amazing. and remember, these tests have not been of the usdm fit, in which the sport version is going to rock 16 inch rubber.

Seriously, read through the posts. We (my wife and I) like the way the current car rides. That's what I've said. Words such as "bumpy" and "rough" did not originate from me.

The whole philosophy of the '09 don't jive with me. The current car has an abundance of interior space for us. We're not big people. Softened suspension?...never a complaint of ours. Extra cupholders? Damn, let me trade in ASAP!

Add to that an extra 2" of wheelbase for what is for us a non-existant space issue in a car that has morphed into what looks like the love child between a Toyota Yaris and Mazda 5 and you have a car I have no need for. One of my small gripes with the current car is that humongous and highly sloped windshield that is now even bigger. Who needs a sunroof when the sun is already glaring in your face non-stop?

If I was 6'+ tall, was a bit oversensitive and had a voracious thirst I might have a need for the new car!

That's all.

My wife would like some A/C vents in the center console for the passengers. That's her biggest gripe; the kids sweatin' in the back in hot weather with the A/C on max.

Some mention whether or not the new car is better or not. That is a very subjective thing. There's enough info out there for me to know that I'm perfectly happy with what we've got. Obviously opinions vary, and there's little point in arguing that.

looks like the new i-vtec will be a DOHC setup.
DOHC engines typically respond better to bolt-ons.
i might need a cylinder head/ecu swap if possible.

Yeah we are not that lucky. Even in Japan the RS engine is SOHC: Honda | クルマ | フィット | スペック

That's not necessarily true. That's only because most are built to a higher spec than their SOHC counterparts.

which is the engine we'll be getting.

the new fits engine will be the third ivtec in honda's line up. (the first being the r18, second the newest jseries v-6 in the accord sedan.)

i'm glad you are happy with what you have, and yes i have been reading the posts.

i dunno how many different types of cars you have driven, but the current fit isn't exactly a smooth operator. i personally like that, but i've also owned other vehciles that have proven a car doesn't have to drive that way to handle the way the fit does.

if the new fit addresses this, whos to complain? no one is forcing you to buy the new fit or trying to convince you that the new one is worlds better.

but it is a hell of a lot safer and it will have cleaner emissions, two things that honda strives for and they are welcome additions.

as far as looks go, they are subjective as well. and unfortunately, everyone's attitudes when a newer version of their car comes out runs along the lines of mostly everyone's posts here. very few of us are going to be objective.....

and that cannot be denied, even though many will.
