$1500 over MSRP!!!!!

I saw Fit bases and Fit Sports online in the DE area. I contacted 2 dealers. One wanted $1k over MSRP and the other $1500 over MSRP for both models. WOW! Do you think they'll get it???????

Hawaii is a different story. Everything is higher in Hawaii because of getting it to the islands. If people in Delaware don't know any better, sure they will have to pay. What a screw job. Of course there is somewhere around $600 profit in a Fit for the dealer so that isn't very much. If they only get 8-10 cars in a month and there are 20 people a month that want one, supply and demand. It sucks thou. Ford dealers are charging $20k plus over sticker for Shelby GT500's. ($50k sticker or more plus the $20k) Of course when you hit the gas petal in that car, it feels like an elephant just kicked you in your ass.

word. my price (08 Sport MT) was around 15,600--and it included floor mats, wheel locks, and the bumper applique. don't ask about my financing, though.....i was upside down on my last car...

I paid msrp in 98 for my type r, but only one thousand were sold in the US and many paid up to 10k over. Why pay that much when thousands are sold?

I'd charge over msrp also if i knew some clown would come by and pay it. Don't blame the dealer....the egg is on the face of the idiot who wrote the check.

thats pretty messed up, i ended up getting the dealer down to 15600 with wheel locks and free state inspections for as long as i own the car and extended warranty. and whatever about the destination fee, can't complain since it comes from japan. when i was looking for my fit i went to some place in new jersey (who will remain unnamed for liability reasons) they had the exact car i wanted vbp 5 speed sport, but they had sold it to another dealer earlier. they told me they could have a car for me by the next week. so i made the deal and filled out a check for a downpayment. next week comes and i still haven't heard anything, then they cash my check and keep stringing me along telling me they will have it the next day, and the next day, etc... then i told them i wanted my money back and they kept making it sound like they didn't have to give it back. since i kept calling them they said i was threatening them! BUT THEY HAD MY MONEY AND NEVER DELIVERED THE CAR! I eventually got them to send me the check. Stay away from a honda dealership in northwest new jersey, they are such crooks. then i went to allentown and had a pretty good experience and a good deal. I tell people to try to find a fit where the dealer physically has the car they want on the lot.

how did you guys get under msrp? the dealers that i'm talking with are only willing to move a couple of hundred under msrp, which i guess is somewhere around what you guys are talking about. i'm in socal and i only found two dealers who are willing to budge off of msrp. and yes the gas prices are definitely affecting the price of these cars.

The fact is there's only a few hundred dollars markup in these cars to begin with. If the dealers back east are charging more and getting it, more power to them. I challenge anyone to try to buy one for invoice with gas at $4 per gallon.

My dealership is very old school. I mean 1930s old school. We never charge over MSRP for any car. However, both Fits and all Civics are MSRP only right now and for the foreseeable future. Why? Supply and demand. We are out of Fits, selling into future stock, and almost completely out of Civics, also selling into future stock. You'd be a fool to discount a car you could sell for full price to someone else.

I didn't pay MSRP or the Admin fee for mine, but I work at the dealership. I sell em for a living. I did pay over invoice though, and waited 30 days to get mine.

When someone comes to me and offers invoice for a Fit or a Civic, I don't have the time to argue with them. I send them down the road quick. We are far too busy to waste time like that.

I'd count that as good advice six months ago. Now they are in such short supply that not only does no one have one locally, we are all preselling them. We don't cash deposit checks. We aren't in the business of keeping checks, we are in the business of selling cars. Sorry you had a bad experience with your first shot, but glad it came out okay.

Anyone who wants to wait until an available one is on the lot will have a long wait.

I bought mine April 2007. I had a specific color and transmission in mind and it wasn't anywhere to be found (silver-auto) within a three county area. I found a dealer who had one on order and they had a delivery date of about 2-3 weeks away. I gave them a deposit to hold the car. Most of dealerships at that time, MAYBE had a car or two. Nobody would move more than a $100 off MSRP. If you wanted a car that day, you would have to take the color and trans they had in stock. Otherwise, order a car and wait 4-6 weeks. I would imagine it's only harder with gas prices going up. You can probably buy an Accord at invoice like I was offered last year, but thats not what we are all here for.

They could easily give you a better deal only to kill you with a car swap and financing. I already had the best financing deal I could get and proceeded to buy the car. They asked about financing and I said I already had it taken care of. They asked if they could try. I said sure. You know what, I was shocked that they saved me about a 1/2 percentage point in interest. Shocked! I already had a great deal from my credit union. Other banks were much more.
I've bought plenty of cars before and only once could a dealer save me money on this.

I paid invoice for my AT Sport (16.1k) and it included floor mats, wheel locks and cargo mat. So i won that battle

But I got hardly anything for my trade-in so they won overall

Many Honda dealers are doing that (charging more than MSRP). They are gouging people like me who are trading trucks and such because they know that we NEED to get out of our cars. If gas were a buck and a quarter, there would be a lot of Fits on the lot I am sure. I do believe in Karma though. Something always happens to those who screw others and profit by it.

When I was looking for a 2001 Odyssey LX back in time, the local NYC dealers wanted $1500 over and 4-6 week wait. Since I drive a lot and travel, I had found a dealer in my travels with the exact car on the lot that I wanted and at sticker price north of Albany, NY. He wouldn't wiggle because they weren't getting enough of them. Probably 4-6 Ody's a month.
I bought the Ody in 18 minutes flat! That included me getting in it and parallel parking it to make sure the sight lines were good, signing paperwork and then leaving. A week later when I had a chance, I did a $80 one-way rental to go pick it up. Fastest car purchase I ever could make. My Fit took about an hour and a half.

I shopped around quite a bit and I paid MSRP for my Fit, but I bought it for cash.

These are popular cars. Anyone who thinks they are getting a Fit for invoice or anywhere near invoice OTD is crazy. Believe me they will more than make up for that in the financing and other fees they tack on.

This are popular cars. Honda dealers do not need your business there are 10 other people who will buy that car. Don't kid yourself that you have the salesman by the balls and don't believe anyone bragging that they paid invoice for ANY popular Honda because that is BS, sorry.

There's some truth in that. The dealer sold 2 the day I was negotiating on mine and I live in a relatively small town. They moved very little on it all, citing the low mark-up (that Bonsaikc mentioned in his comments earlier) as the main reason. They know they can sell it to someone else anyway. Honda is in a good position right now with these cars and they know it. A year or two ago that probably wasn't the case, before gas prices starting rising so dramatically, but it is now.

That's just retarded. Like someone goes to buy a fuel efficient car to save money but they end up spending 2 years of saved fuel cost in the markup of the car. All I can say to that sucker is "Fail" and then i'd say go buy a Civic
