Replace stock speakers (Still stock head unit)

i PUT TWO KICKER 5" 1/2" speakers in the back doors and they had absolutely no bass. I know they were the wrong size I already sent to crutchfield for the same speaker but 6" 1/2" and instead of putting the same ones in the front I got Blaupunkt GTc652 6" 1/2" components for the same price. I am waiting for them to send me my new speakers but without placing the stock head unit will these speakers still push out no bass or did I do something wrong?

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks in advance.

i doubt the stock headunit has nearly enough power to drive any upgraded aftermarket speakers, so you either need an amp or a new headunit, preferably both, especially if you are getting components

Stock head unit in a sport is supposed to be 50 watts per channel

Hooking up the speakers backwards (wrong polarity) is also a recipe for no bass and is easy to do.

It's worth talking to Crutchfield about this issue.

There is also a lot of difference in the efficiency of speakers. Given a certain size speaker you will find that some speakers take a lot of power while others take a lot less to put the same sound level. Again, something to discuss with Crutchfield.

This topic should be in the ICE section, anyways...

When I had 6-1/2" Polk DB651S front and back with just the stock head unit the bass was almost non-existent. The stock head unit just can't drive aftermarket speakers well.
But, the mids and highs did sound better though.
The solution for me was adding a small 'powered' sub-woofer in the cargo area and now the bass is back!

What non-expensive head unit would work out better for me. I am planning on adding a sub but not yet.
