'09 Fit will get 46 MPG?

taken from Autoblog.com:

the 1.5 i-VTEC will be the sole engine in the US. In Japanese trim, it's good for 118 horsepower (120 PS) -- a 9-horse bump over what the engine in the current car delivers. Even with that extra juice, the Japan-spec 1.5L Fit can achieve fuel economy of 46 mpg (19.6 km/l).
Is this accurate? That's a significant increase from 34 mpg that the '08 model gets.

To me the statement reads :In Japanese trim, & the Japan-spec 1.5L" which i take it to mean that the Japanese version gets that and we probably won't get that here in the US for the 2009 version.

What is it about the Japanese spec engine that gives it better mpg?

That's probably a bit inflated. I think I remember hearing somewhere that the fuel economy testing process over in Japan isn't quite as realistic as it is over here. I could be wrong though.

46MPG is for the 1.3L Fit

as for the new 1.5L i-vtec fit.. the mileage will remain the same. I read this info from asia forums.

Seems a bit high. I reckon the 2009 Fit will get a tad better then the 07-08s though

Epa

When the Fit was first released, EPA estimated 34-38 mpg I think. Now it's 28-34 mpg. I think the same thing will happen to the 09 Fit.

The SAE says the 09 gets same mpg as the 08.

I think that's due to a change in the way EPA estimates fuel economy as of 2008. It's more stringent know as far as I know, so estimates for most cars has dropped between 2007 and 2008.
