How do you know "break in"

If I recalled correctly, the manual said 5k miles. So my question is how can you tell when your FIT is break in ? any change in the car ? BTW, I had 2k on mine.
thanks

625 miles/1 000km of gentle driving breaks in the engine for future use, once uve done 6250 miles/10 000km u'll feel that the car has 'loosened' up, the engine wont feel as 'tight' and u should get slightly better economy out of the car once its broken in nicely...

I used a different breakin that is discussed in this forum - I drove gently but did push high RPM's initially to seat the piston rings. A little like driving like you plan on driving it in the future but with slower shifting and keeping the braking smooth. Seems to have worked - getting 40-42 mpg in the mountains and has good pep. With a little over 3000 miles on it, I have gotten as high as 44 mpg on the interstate.

I believe the old way of babying the engine is no longer needed due to changes in technology and manufacturing clearance. I will get back to you when I have passed the 200,000 mile mark.

Good luck and enjoy.

How u drive ur car is up to u, I'd stick with what the manual says, Honda should know best- they designed the car. Personally I treated my baby nicely just to be on the safe side, I have just over 12 500 miles/20 000km at the moment and no qualms bout giving it stick now

You're already broken in. The car will continue on it's own at least to 10,000 miles. You'll know because your gas mileage will get better! Mine went from 32-33 mpg to over 40! after 10K.
Now you have something to look forward to.
