Securing large loads safely

Hi,

What techniques are folks using the secure large, moderately heavy, loads when their rear seats are folded down? I'm essentially worried about heavy things flying forward in a head-on collision. I'm talking about something heavier than what a cargo net might be applicable for.

yah, bungie cords/straps can help...

I wouldnt use bungies as they can snap more easily than say roof tethers.

Are we talking cast iron wood stove? An engine? There should be some anchors in the car but this is always considered dangerous.

I'm mainly interested in a 100 lb telescope- essentially a large wooden box, a set of 8 five-foot long poles, and a briefcase sized metal "cabbage case" for equipment.

There are, in fact, four anchor points in the cargo area.
