Smile Washers in bewtween bumpers

So I went out the other night and took a look at my bumpers because my fit is 2 weeks old and I wanted to see if the paint was chipping on the corners. one side had a very very tiny paint chip, but it was like the paint was a very soft tape.

After examining the bumper/fender areas, I deduced that the reason the paint actually chips there is because the corner of the plastic bumper is rubbing against the top of the metal fender.

The solution was simple enough. A few flat rubber washers you can buy anywhere (i bought em at Osh Hardware), unscrew the corner of the bumper on all four corners and insert one washer inbetween.

The bumpers and fenders no longer rub against each other, hopefully eliminating the chance for chipping to occur.

Does anyone have a story to tell about this? Good idea, bad idea? Any input is probably good for all of us fit owners.

washers

Actually the washers as spacers on the bumper to prevent chipping is a rather lengthy thread somewhere but I thought that problem was an 07 thing and wasn't occurring on the 08s. Mine has, for now, no bumper rubbing issues.

people figured this exact thing out about 2 years ago when they got the 07 fits. maybe one of them can chime in on it.
