I'm putting this all over the forum

But just in case people don't find the Official Tint Thread or the percentage tint thread.

35/20 done this morning. Lumar film, lifetime manufacturer warranty.

That looks good Juliane. I think 30% in front would have been better for you anyway since you live in Texas. I used to live in Dallas and I know how it feels to open the door of an oven during a summer day.

Tinting w/ Nav?

I'm a total newbee to this forum.....my first post, but I've been lurking for months! I'm waiting for my 09 w/ Nav.....will be born on Sept. 15. Anyway, I'm wondering about the effects of tint on the navigation system. Somewhere I downloaded the manual for the Nav, and on pg 97 it refers to reception problems.....metalic tint is listed as one of the issues. The dash is mentioned so maybe tinting rear wouldn't be a problem? I'm curious about this because tinting is something I plan to do down the road.

I'm pretty sure cars just COME tinted 70%? So basically saying you can't get any additional tint?

Anyway, CA says no tint on the front side windows and DGAF for all of the rear windows. I have 35% all-around and haven't had any problems yet, even pulling up next to a cop and smiling. :b Then again I am driving a damn econobox, I guess they only mess with nice cars.

I DO live in America's safest city (Mission Viejo) and the pigs have nothing to do so they might get me eventually.

fixed.

and for all those people who roll down the windows next to a cop, there's a good chance that you will be caught sometime down the road. they know all the tricks in the rulebook and streetbook, especially new recruits who drove the cars we drive now... I was one of them.

This would not be a problem or none of the auto dealers would be installing any tint at all. The front windscreen cannot be tinted any more than it comes, except for the very top 5 or so inches. I don't know who makes their navi system but it might be a really crappy one if they are telling you your window tint might disrupt it. Lame.

All I know is what I read in the NAV manual that I downloaded. This is from Page 97:
GPS Reception Issues
The signals received from the GPS
satellites are extremely weak (less than
a millionth of the strength of a local FM
station) and require an unobstructed
view of the sky. The signal can easily be
interrupted or interfered with by the
following:
Aftermarket metallic window tint
above or to the sides of the GPS
antenna (located under the
dashboard)

• Cell phones, PDAs, or other
electronic devices docked in a cradle
or lying loose on the dashboard
• Radar detectors mounted on the
dashboard
• Remote starters, or “hidden” vehicle
tracking systems mounted near the
navigation unit
• Other aftermarket audio electronic
devices mounted near the navigation
unit
• Trees, tall buildings, freeway
overpasses, tunnels, or overhead
electrical power wires

18% carbon tint on the five rear windows, with no tinting on the three front windows. The guy at the shop told me that 18% was the Honda factory standard on trucks such as the Honda Ridgeline.

Window Tinting in California

I just went to the California Vehicle Code on-line and found one of the frequently asked questions is about window tinting. Here is the answer:

Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
  1. The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
  2. If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

So for those of you who live in Cali, you might want to think twice about after-market window tinting, unless you want a ticket!

So this is basically saying that if your car came factory tinted then it would be okay, since it's not aftermarket?

I still think 70% is legal. That's what tint shops have told me and that's Tintlaws.com says. Doesn't matter for me either way b/c I'm already illegal, lol.

Yeah, they tinted those along with the side windows. Someone said they are part of the front windshield but I don't think that could be true. The tint is just right - it's dark enough to have an effect of keeping heat and sun out, but not dark enough to be super-noticeable or to impede vision. I'm really pleased with it. The tint guy talked me into that, said all the dealers put that combo on their cars. I like to blend in, not stand out...at least not for my tint job!!

Julianne's Fit looks tight the 35/20 seems really good. But how is the vision with the 20 at the back? Good, bad, ok, didn't make a difference?

I haven't driven it at night yet, but I can tell you that during the day, there is no problem seeing out the rear window. Now, if you get 5%, limo tint, you will have a problem at night, and I think it would be a problem during the day too. But if you have 2 side mirrors, it's still legal to do and I see a lot of SUVs with limo tint at the back.

My tint is 18%, it's close to 20%. I picked it because I didn't want the tint to be so dark that it obscures my vision, in the day and night. My brother has 5% limo tint on the rear of his car, and that's way too dark. Under full sun, it's okay, but it's very dark at night.

I am not sure if its a typo or not but 18% is darker than 20%.

Yes, I know that my 18% is darker than 20%. But, my point was that I wanted something close to the 20%, so it wouldn't have to be so dark, like 5%.

I just got mine done. 55/20 with a front windshield 20 strip.

it was nice having a white tc in the background to really compare. People say 50 isnt really anything, but its pretty darn noticible to me.
