Question Power Steering Problem?

I have an '07 Sport with about 61,000 km on it. This morning when I started her up and backed out of the driveway, my power steering was basically gone. Steering was extremely heavy and it felt just like it does to steer when the engine is off. My parking brake was definitely off, though I think the dash light for the brake may have been on. But...I've never had the steering wheel feel like that if I accidentally leave the parking brake on. Anyway, I pulled her back into the driveway and took our other car.

Upon my return a few hours later, I tried again and everything was fine. I've been driving around since and there are no problems...the steering feels loose and normal.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Any ideas what might have caused it? Should I go to the dealer and have it checked out?

Any/all opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Jaylene

some issues

I can't find the posts right now but I believe periodically people have had similar issues to yours. Not many but some. I'd be a little upset by problems that "fix themselves" which, to me, means they're lurking waiting to screw me when I most need the car. They'll probably say everything's OK but I'd tell Honda about it and have them check it. At least you would begin documenting the issue.

Absolutely have the dealer check it out. If it happened once, it could likely happen again.

There are a few posts about this. Theres a EPS (Electronic Power Steering) module that goes out on the Fits. From what I remember it happens A LOT in cold weather.

A friend of mine had his replaced on his Fit. His car would loose PS sometimes. The light would pop on and the wheel would get stiff.
He would turn the car off and start it, everything would be fine.

Take it in.

I have a 2007 Honda Fit. I bought it 6/2006. It now has 40,00 miles on it. The power steering has stopped working 2 times in the last 2 weeks. Bolth days it was mild weather. Both times it was after I was first starting after it had been sitting for 12 hours or more. Both times it happened after I had driven the car approximately 40 - 100 yards. I took it to my Honda dealer and he said he could find nothing wrong.
