Better mileage inland?

Has anyone noticed that everyone that has been posting their mileage are more inland at higher altitude than those with lower altitude and at the coasts?

The best I've seen is JDMChris's mileage, but after noticing things during my travels, my mileage got better as I went towards chicago, and got worse heading back to the bay area. Most of my driving was automated, and was pleasant at 70mph, I ranged from 400mpg from the heartland to about 320 in nevada/california.

Just some awkward stuff...

CA is full time oxygenated fuel, so out of CA people may well do better.

I strongly agree. I'm not sure about the altitude part, but inland is definitely more flat. I used to live in Texas and there were absolutely no hills anywhere. Here in San Diego I'm driving up and down steep inclines everyday, which is why I think my gas mileage isn't as great as others have claimed.

Cali mpg < Inland mpg

BTW: I think Burbio has gotten like 45+ on his AT Fit and he's in SD too, but my argument stands. Doug is just too badass
